Trouba or Myers might be the best target. Only team I can think of with an over abundance of RHD and lacking in the left side. - HealthyScratch6
I think I’d rather Gards over Myers

I would trade Gardiner now TBH. His value is never going to be higher...it's just a case of finding the guy you want on the blueline to make it worthwhile - AngryWhiteMale
How high could his value be after blowing another game 7?....it’s still so fresh in everyone’s mind |

I’d just move Jake to the right side...but I’ve never been a fan of Myers. |

I said at the draft to Edmonton so they could take Bouchard.
But now, they can try to go after Pietrangelo. Maybe a 3-way deal with Ottawa that sends Karlsson to St. Louis. - Unholy_Goalie
Why would st Louis want to give up pietrangelo? |

Agreed.
I'd prefer Faulk, a lot because he has another year on his contract...but because he's a better fit on the Right side and on the PP. we need a big shot. |

I'm honestly wondering what it would take to get a guy like Ekblad. I know it's the same division but I think we'd solve our Defence problems for a good decade if we get our hands on him. |

Highly doubt the Leafs get any d that will cost more than 5 million
And I can say with a lot of certainty that Willie isn't going anywhere. |

I'm for keeping Gardiner if his next contract is manageable. He fits the team identity well. He can skate, pass, carry the puck, he's a very capable PP point man (not much of a shot, but his puck handling along the blue line is terrific). Overall, he's more of a difference-maker than any safer but less offensive depth option we could reasonably hope to acquire.
Plus, it helps that the Leafs have two players in this mould (Rielly and Gardiner) that can be deployed on separate pairings. You want at least two top-4 D that can do this. |

Ekblad should be untouchable. You'd have to give up Nylander plus a significant amount more, if not Matthews 1 for 1. |

Gardiner wasn't solely at fault for game 7.
Andersen gave up some bad goals. The whole team failed to maintain pressure and defend the lead. The whole team has a piece of the blame.
Reality is, Gardiner is a 50+ point defender who was playing #1 minutes. Gardiner is not a #1 defender. When you put a #3 or #4 defender in the #1 role, bad things happen. It's like blaming Kadri for not scoring as much as Matthews if Kadri was playing in Matthews' spot. It's not because he's a bad player, it's just not his role. |

As a starter, with a bad defense in front of him, he put up good numbers in 2017. He wasn't able to do it again last year and probably won't do well on a bad Islander team this year. But as a back-up, on a 1 year deal, it would have been an upgrade for the Leafs.
Lehtonen could be alright as a back-up for the Leafs, he's one of the few decent ones left. He's always had injury troubles and bad numbers as a starter the past few years but if he's expected to play 25-30 games, it could work out nicely. His numbers were alright last year playing 37 games. Get him down to 25-30 games, rest Andersen more often and have him fresh for the playoffs. |

We had 4 guys basically playing the top mins - Gardiner had way too many giveaways and is soft in our zone. Not saying we need to get rid of him but we need a better 5/6 so the top 4 don’t get so many mins. Hopefully we get a couple good D and we slide Z down to the 3rd pair. |

The Leafs need a top pairing RHD and another top-4 D and that's even if they re-sign Gardiner too.
It should be Rielly + Pietrangelo (or any other legit top pairing RHD) and Gardiner + top-4 RHD like Pesce. Zaitsev can be traded if and when Liljegren is ready or bottom pairing plus Dermott.
The bottom pairing could be improved but it's not the real problem. When the games get close in the playoffs, you want a legit top-4. |
