There is no way you getting Provy that cheaply. He is already an established #1 Dman on a playoff team who plays nearly 25 minutes per game. 8 years at 65 million, aav 8.125 is probably what it will end up costing them and I think he's worth every penny.

yup - I wouldn't complain at all if that were his deal

LOL, it does happen all the time though, especially when the injured player isn't a starting goalie, top 4 dman or top 9 forward.

Yes, but the idea that all of the other defensemen were playing well wasn't really the case.

Yeah, that was my thought on the matter.

Don't forget the Ekblad deal was signed when the top dmen in the league were all making 9 million or less. The cost and the cap, have gone up. 8.125 is a good deal for a #1 Dman heading into 19-20. Figure by the final year, when Provorov will only be 29 at the start of the season, the cap will probably be at least 95 million. 8.125 under a 95 million cap is roughly equivalent to 6.9 million under an 80 million cap. It would be a great signing.

I think he is cheaper than that. Worth it for sure, but I think he comes in cheaper

I think so to. Ekblad wasn’t far removed from a #1 overall pick. OEL just came in at 8.25

Was conversing in the Buffalo thread. They were talking about needing a LW. They offered Girgensons, McCabe and conditional 2019 3rd rounder that can be a 2nd rounder if Simmonds re signs for Simmonds.

To me that seems like a solid deal for the Flyers.

Girgensons can be your 3rd line center next season and move to wing when Frost is ready. He also adds size. McCabe can slot into your top 4.

Does it work? Or do people feel that's not enough? Just curious

Impossible to predict, between more potential moves this offseason, in season trades and injuries, it's pointless to try and figure this out now.

Nope, no deal. Girgensons put up what, 15 points last year? And McCabe was a 4/5 on one of the worst teams in the league. Tell them to get back to us when they are serious.

edit: If they are going to move Simmonds, it will likely be to a contender anyway.

Sure it was. Why else would the GM say that if that wasn’t indeed the reality?

I would rather sit in a crowd of people crying as we watch Simmonds literally walk away from us on July 1st, 2019

A. That is a horrible return for Simmonds

B. Simmonds is a RW

I love how much they think ROR was worth but think that is a good enough offer for Simmonds.

Haha exactly, there is no chance Provy will get 8 per. I would gladly give it to the guy but like stated, OEL just got that. I think he gets a 6x6.

Why?

I'd rather go 8 years now then have to go 11-12 after 6 years when he is a Norris trophy finalist.

If you don't think there is much risk and Provorov is just going to get better I would pay him 8 at 8 and not think twice.

You need to be able to look down the road, JVR, G, Jake, all off the books by then. There is no problem paying him 10+ 6 years out while we have a great value contract for the 6 years prior. The big guys come off the books and then Provy is essentially your new top paid guy along with hopefully Patrick depending how he develops.

McDoughnuts just signed in Tampa for an aAV of $6.75. I dont see how IP could expect more than $6MM myself.
