Too rich for my blood, he played too few games last year due to injury. Flyers really do need to upgrade Gudas though, that guy cost them a game of two (yes it’s a team sport blah blah blah) in the POs.

I don’t think he gets 8 but ekblad is a pretty good comp right? Certainly his agent can point to that deal. That’s the one that scares me. I know #1 overall plays into it but it’s tough to gauge how much
- Just5

Ekblad got a horrible contract that is actually in line with what people are saying: count the Norris trophies so let’s pay him like a Norris winner. Hedman ended up signing a similar deal that same summer. They paid him like Hedman despite not being Hedman yet. Or ever. They overestimated where he was at and where his projections were. I’m sure the #1 pick factor was there too.

To be clear I think Provorov is a lot better than Ekblad. He’s used more like a #1 at a similar stage. And he’s performed better. I wouldn’t trade them for each other in a million years. But I don’t want the Flyers to treat that as precedent either because he’s the outlier in recent years getting that much, and it ended up a bad contract. And he actually has room on PP1 to grow his scoring.

I would love to see what Werenski gets. Because him and Provorov are on pretty equal footing. And I doubt he gets as much as people are talking about here.

Since Karlsson is the best offensive defenseman in the NHL and the Flyers would still have Provorov and the still-developing Sanheim to provide offense from the back end, I would think that Ghost would a better trade fit. He's 3 years younger than Karlsson, far more established as an NHL offensive contributor than Sanheim, and would give Ottawa a "name" return along with whatever assets go along.

There aren't many players I'd consider Gostisbehere expendable to acquire but Karlsson would be one.

Bill is totally wrong on this one. Why trade for Karlsson when you HAVE Ghost, let alone for Ghost and others???
Ghost had 3 more points this past season, is 3 years younger and was +35 higher in plus minus and will cost less than half Karlsson's salary. What am I missing? Ghost may be the best bargain in the league. 4th highest scoring defenseman and 59th in cap hit!!!! And locked up for 5 more seasons.

Karlsson is a lot more consistent and does a lot more on the ice than Ghost. This isn't a slight on Ghost but there is a reason Karlsson is going to get the contract he gets.

Does he do 130% more on the ice? Cos that how much more he will be paid. Karlsson's next deal will be an albatross sooner rather than later.
He had 3 less points than Ghost and was -25 last year. Consistent? Is he going to be better in his 30's?? This makes NO sense.

Yes yes he does. Let's not point out the Norris trophies or the years of being a consistent weapon. Let's not point out how terrible the Ottawa team as a whole was when picking stats. Let's forget he took a horrendous Ottawa team to a conference final. He is one the best d men in the league not just a pp qb. I would trade ghost for Karlsson without hesitation as would probably any coach or gm in the NHL. Now we probably won't. But to say you wouldn't is ridiculous. Ghost isn't anywhere near the best defenseman in the NHL label. He will be hard pressed to even win that title on his own team.

You are WAY wrong bro. It wasn't just Ottawa that were terrible last season....Karlsson was terrible. Don't use bad team as an excuse for -25.
McDavid is a star on a bad team, he was plus 20.
Karlsson is looking for McDavid money! How is this a debate? ALBATROS ALERT!!

If the Flyers felt they were close to being contenders soon, it wouldn't be a bad trade. Karlsson is only 3 years older than Ghost. Ottawa's cheap owner gets 5 years of Ghost on a very friendly contract. Flyers would get a dman who can probably continue playing almost 30 minutes a night for another few seasons and should still be pretty dominant after that.
