I'd do everything possible to avoid it. If they have to then OTT eating money is an absolute must. - hereticpride
Making Ryan an absolute in terms of being attached alongside EK is just dumb.
Basically lowers whatever you could get back in a trade. Dorion would just be a puppet. |

Agreed. They want him gone bad though. I feel like they've been shopping him for years now. |

It's weird how I still think of him first and foremost as a near elite defender. His points, for some reason, seemed to come sneakily under the radar for me last year. Each time I look at his stats I'm still shocked at how well he produced at that age. - Crimsoninja

Its kind of at the point with Ottawa where fans should stop coming to games or buying merchandise. Not sure what the hell Melnyk is doing. I take some solace in the fact that Boucher is the one that has to coach in that poophole. |

Imho that's a poor measuring stick as there is too much emphasis on points with that award. That Ghost got votes and Provorov didn't tells me all I need to know about those who vote on that award.
I don't care one iota how many AS games a player plays in. AS games are meaningless folly. - Scoob
I believe Ghost finishing ahead of Provorov was the right decision. He was the better defenseman last season IMHHO!!!!!!!!!! |

Just spitballing. NBC Sports posted something earlier today with Philly as one of the 5 destinations he could end up however. |

Lots to like about adding a player like Karlsson. I just wonder if it is a true need having Gostisbehere, Provorov, and Sanheim and the other prospects. I'd rather trade Simmonds and maybe add something else and see what they can add.

I think they’re right to blow it up but man oh man that pick to Colorado looks bad if they’re tanking |

We’re not even in on Karlsson. Someone posted that it would be a logical fit. TSN mentioned the 5 teams who are pursuing a trade for him and we are not mentioned.
Give it up, it’s not happening!! |

I don't think anyone should rely on media reports of who is or isn't in on any trade.

VGK, much more in need of Karlsson, declined a supposed Karlsson deal which was 2 1sts and Shea Theodore. And Ottawa is desperate to offload Ryan too, because Melnyk is a cheap (frank), which is killing return value.
Even ignoring Ryan, we are giving up 5 years of one of the best contracts in hockey for a 60 point Ghost and the equivalent of 2 1sts (+?) for Karlsson? Ghost's value is so much higher than Theodore's -- in a vacuum and with his contract. Sanheim is more an equivalent with more NHL time, and he'll be better than Theodore. Ottawa has zero leverage here to demand that when other teams aren't budging for less and it's a ticking clock. Karlsson will make $11 million from age 29-36 (assuming he even signs), and how he'll hold up is definitely a slight concern. Ghost makes $4.5 mil from 25-29. Karlsson is one of a kind, but is he ~$7 mil better? Plus multiple 1sts? I think it grossly understates Ghost's on-ice and contractual and trade value; and Ottawa would accept that in a heartbeat after having trouble moving him. |

When TSN reports they are almost always bang on. I’ll go with what they say, and heck, even EK didn’t mention us in on Karlsson. A media reporter stated we would be a logical fit. Nothing else, was just his guessing and it’s nlown up that we are in on him and we’re not. |

I'll repeat. Nobody, including TSN knows completely who is or isn't in on trade talks for a player. They are a reputable source but nobody can say with certainty based on their report who is or isn't involved.

Give them Hagg, a B-level prospect and route Simmonds to a third team for some picks/prospects and I imagine we’d be getting close. Maybe throw in a first if they take our “absolutely is a top 4 defenseman”
