with taking ryan it should soften the load sent to ottawa maybe they will retain some salary
- mydoglicks

7,250,000 for 4 more seasons. Seriously as much as I love him (grew up with his cousins) i don't want any part of that salary when you will have to re-sign EK which won't be cheap and sign your own young developing players like Provorov and TK. Honestly if I were Ottawa I would not try to attach Ryan to the deal because its going to diminish the return. I do understand why Ottawa wants out of that contract tho

How many teams have 20 million in cap for the both of them ? I think they'll try but ultimately fail to pair the 2.

Well they're going to get a roster player or two back so it won't quite require that much open space but yeah, adding Ryan will only deminish the return.

I just mean at this point I don't see a lot of teams who believe Karlsson will push them over the edge that have 1. The cap 2. The prospects picks to get a deal done and 3. The motivation to acquire him in the first place

It only takes two teams to start a bidding war.

I legit could see Hextall getting involved but it really just depends what Ottawa wants in return. If Hextall put out an offer of Simmonds, Sanhiem, next year's 1st and someone like Weise as a cap dump I could see it working for us. They'll probably just turn around and flip Simmonds for something else as they don't have a pressing need for him right now.

The only young d I would give up for Karlsson is ghost. And its cause they fill similar roles

Then swap out Ghost for Sanhiem. I think that's the kind of offer the Flyers would put out. If they get outbid then someone else really overpaid.

Since Karlsson is the best offensive defenseman in the NHL and the Flyers would still have Provorov and the still-developing Sanheim to provide offense from the back end, I would think that Ghost would a better trade fit. He's 3 years younger than Karlsson, far more established as an NHL offensive contributor than Sanheim, and would give Ottawa a "name" return along with whatever assets go along.

There aren't many players I'd consider Gostisbehere expendable to acquire but Karlsson would be one.

All good points. I think Hextall is very cautious when it comes to trading his own players but this could be one of those Schenn deals when they return is just too good to pass up. Especially if they aren't in the same page with Simmonds regarding an extension.

Is it true the rumors that hes fine accepting 8 years 10 per in a trade to a team he wants to go to ? That contract is well worth it.

Completely agree on ghost. A first ghost and a prospect or 2 would be fine with me given our organizational depth.

I'd do that in a second, curious if Ottawa would.

Do you think this is a move Hextall would consider? It's tempting because it's Karlsson but I think I prefer to stay on the current path and let the kids keep filtering in.

I'm making them take Weise too. A deal like this they should know they might have to take a cap dump back.

I'd feel bad for probably the majority of guys that ended up having to go to Ottawa in a hypotherical trade.

Just a poophole organization with a ghetto owner. The skating trail is nice.

I feel like they would push for a prospect over next year's 1st. Not sure Hexy would go for that.

Not having to take a a lot of salary back would be Melnyk's dream. They can flip Simmonds again, and keep Ghost with the 1st rounder.

A trade for EK is a big step forward. If its a reasonable deal I would hope they are exploring it.

I'm not Bill, but most hockey sites and publications have ranked the Flyers prospects among the top 5 groups in the league for a few years now.

I'd do everything possible to avoid it. If they have to then OTT eating money is an absolute must.
