Oddly, I think I'm more concerned with splitting Coots and Konecny.

Really does anyone know what is happening with Steve Mason
I am really surprised about his time in Winnipeg
8 million salary for a few games ( 13 in total )

He deserves a starter job somewhere

I read somewhere they had a backlash against too many tourists going there recently. Did you experience anything like that? We were there about 8 yrs ago and loved it. Great people, amazing food too.
- Marc D

No, we didn't. We were easily identifiable as American tourists as soon as we spoke but every encounter we had was very pleasant. Before leaving I was a little concerned about the political climate there with the Catalan region wanting to break away but we didn't really see any signs of that issue.

Mason is better than Petr Mrazek and Mrazek managed to score a job.

No idea why Mason is out on the street right now.

FWIW, on the Flyers’ official roster JVR is now back to No. 21. Yesterday he was 25…for those with jersey purchasing interests.

I wonder how much Scott Laughton got for his jersey number.

FWIW, Ek seems to think he'll be going to either Toronto or Carolina. I assume for a pay cut...

It is even pretty smart from Mrazek
Darling signed a large contract last year totally unprepared for a starter job
Mrazek can steal his job
Bad so bad for Maze he was really a good guy

I feel bad for Mase. All he wants to be is a true number one. Looks like he might have to swallow his pride and be a 1B. Still to be traded and then bought out...ouch.

At first I wasn't thrilled with the JvR trade. I really hope he keeps it going. I mean he potted 36 goals in a contract year, good for him. He deserves 7mil a year.

It also makes me happy that we actually get to undo the Luke Schenn trade. Something makes me think that at the time, Homer needed some D help, unite the Schenn brothers, and it would all work out awesome. But it didn't. Not in the slightest. Man, that was the worst trade ever. Glad Hextall got the opportunity to make things right.

But Mrazek is already in Carolina.I doubt very much they need a 3rd one after Darling and Mrazek

Pretty content with the JvR deal. Some top flight winger depth was needed on the left side.

I really want the Flyers to re-sign Simmonds. He's exactly the type of player the Flyers need to win a Stanley Cup, even in a reduced role in the twilight of his career.

The best part of the Tavares deal is that Toronto is an instant Stanley Cup favorite. The pressure mixed with the ridiculous Toronto media / Canadian coverage should prove to be a wonderful blend of 'what could go wrong'.

The pressure's all on them now!

- Pixote Andolini

Yep! Tavares knew he was going to sign there all along. Kind of pisses me off, and I bleed orange and black! Why would a guy pay all those Canadian taxes and cost of living ( I know, I was just there for a week) plus US money is worth about 28% more, and he could have gotten a longer term contract for more money to stay on Long Island??? He knew it and hijacked the limelight as long as he could milk it. For that, he needs to be concussed! Being a Richard has its penalties!

As for the JVR signing, I like it too. I Just hope they can come to terms w Simmer. Love that player and person. Too few of them around.

Lastly, PLEASE Hexy, get us a 3c! That would be 3 solid lines. As for the 4th, I’d rather be fast and mediocre, than slow and mediocre. If there isn’t a trade there to significantly improve the fourth line, then let the other teams’ 4th line spend time trying to catch ours. Get rid of the slow, dead weight.

Should be better than last year, but remember, as BiggE stated in an earlier post, “progress isn’t linear”. Great observation!

I always (and still) viewed the Luke Schenn and Andrew MacDonald trades as Holmgren desperately trying to backfill the premature loss of Chris Pronger.

There have an infinite number of posts on the JVR trade, but I think fewer people would have had problems with it if the return was Luke Schenn plus a high draft pick or a prospect. That we only got Schenn for JVR made the deal less palatable. That JVR was still productive while Schenn was underwhelming made the deal worse.

Travis Konecny was one of the highest scoring wingers in the NHL last season when paired with Giroux and Coots. If they plan on using him in that role, then it would be smart to sign him long term before he commands the asking price of one of the highest scoring wingers in the NHL
- YuenglingJagr

I'd have no problem with signing him to a coots like deal. i'm not sure if that's what he'd be looking for or not though.

When Steve Mason started slow with the Jets (what else is new?) and then got hurt, he lost his job. It happens. Many around here made it sound like Hextall was a genius for letting him go. Whatever happened there doesn't mean it would happen here. Mason deserves a look.

It's like with Mrazek. He had an uneven season last season. Problem is, he isn't a superstar goalie. He's never played behind an awesome defense. Guys like Mason Mrazek have the capability. I don't think Elliot or Neuvirth are light years more talented than Mason and Mrazek.

At the time fans wanted Schenn and Kadri for JvR, which at the time seemed fair.

Completely agree, very true all around. I wasn't upset at the time of the trade either. I figured, maybe a change of scenery for Luke would help him reach his potential. We desperately needed some defensive help.

Just amazes me.. you rarely, if ever, get an opportunity to make things right. Gotta give Hextall props, and JvR too for coming back. Pretty awesome.

the team negative side of me thinks it's actually pretty funny that the Flyers will have JVR on their team for almost his entire career EXCEPT for his prime

Love the signing...hated the trade

I expect with this team he can average 30 a year over the five years. The Flyers actually have 7 legit top 6 forwards on the roster now.
