Would you consider the Leafs the Cup favourites with that D core?

It's amazing how much talent you can add if you load up on draft picks. Yeah, no point in ever doing that...

Hey, we got an extra 6th next year!

Guessing there are no top D traded i can see the Leafs & NYI as at least 2 teams as a fit for a Tanev trade for something big.
NYI is screwed & even though LL is at the helm the pressure just cranked up.
The Leafs are not done & D is why

Jets losing Stastny hurts & need a C to replace him. I can see a deal with FLA for Bjugstad or Minny for Coyle being possibilities. Trouba or Myers are who could move. Leafs could use either but it costs a Kadri minimum so i don’t see it.

Anyone like Christian Dvorak from the Yotes in a deal?
Or Bjugstad or Coyle?
Or wait & draft a C next year?

Tweaked... both LE & Gagner on the roster but not important they are starters.

Sven Bo BB
EP AG JV
Roussel Sutter LE
Schaller Beagle Granlund
Goldy Gagner

- Nighthawk

Sven-Bo-Brock. Top line.
Rousell-Sutter-Eriksson. Grinderman.
Gagner-Gaudette-Pettersson. Offensive Zone starts.
Schaller-Beagle-Virtanen. Bang and crash.
Granlund, Goldy. Extra's.

It's awkward trying to keep everyone in.
I hope some forwards are moved to create a bit more space (i'd like Sven traded myself and Gaudette to play in Utica).

Goldy-Bo-Brock
Rousell-Sutter-Granlund
Eriksson-Gagner-Petterson
Schaller-Beagle-Virtanen

My theory:

I’m thinking Benning panicked after hearing about what Reaves got and knowing that many teams were interested in Beagle/Roussel.

I’m guessing he was expecting that the entire market would be inflated so he caved into Beagle and Roussel’s demands since they were his main targets and he figured he’d have to overpay to get someone so he decided to overpay his Plan A options.

But after seeing some of the other deals signed later today(Grabner, Bozak, Nash, Perron, Rieder, etc), it’s clear that he jumped the gun, especially considering the NTC’s fir both and buyout proof deal for Beagle

Orrrr...

He knew the market and ballpark figures of the other players but just simply overvalued these guys and was willing to overpay to land them.

Anyway, I’m out for today.

Enjoy your Canada day!

I'm guessing his coach went up to him and said I would really like these guys to play an aggressive attack game and that we were too soft last year

Those are all ok.
Find us a trade for a 2C.
Assets are Tanev Sutter Sven Hutton Gagner.
Allows AG to be a 3C to gain him time to develop or go to UTICA.
also any trades for 1sts or 2nds is more than good if no top 2C.

Fans will like Roussel. He's a tough customer who agitates and defends his mates. Dorsett replacement. Definitely fills a need. Tim Schaller will surprise. Benning knew this player. Boston connections lead to his signing.

Also allows TG to develop top 6 talent.
Work ethic & earn the TOI or roster spots.
Rolling 4 lines i really like given what we have.

Only the 4th year for the UFA’s are a minor concern to me
Tbh they are TDL trade bait or future buyout potentials
We won’ t be a contender any sooner 2-3yrs probably 4-5 more likely
Character & hard working vets are always a good thing to have

I like it too. I don't like the term or money for Beagle but I think he will be fine for 3 years. He says he feels in the best shape of his life . We just now need to sign Jake and Stech.

We are now at the stage when one player is ready we can bring ne in and move one out

You presume a degree is why he went to college or why any player does so. Overrated when NHL money is so much higher than any degree he would get.
He can always get his degree over time.

- Nighthawk

Shame on me for assuming he went to college to get some sort of education? Lol.

All education is good education my friend.

Yes. Sign him after his college year, and after Jimbo addresses the TBLJ - Toilet Bowl Log Jam - we got here on the backend. On the other hand, looking how he faired at the WC I'd still be ok with him singing. That would force the Canucks to address their D now. Hopefully not just by waivers.

BTW, Sven got too much per year. He hasn't earned that money yet.

A top 6 winger for 3.35 is a better aav than 3 or 3.25 for bottom 6 with more term
