There's an entire twitter account that basically shows a bunch of examples:

(Some of them are leaps, but there's some good ones in there)

Of course they won't

The 11 guys Vantel named are pretty much a lock to start the season in the lineup.

It's a fine line, you don't want such a shallow team that 6-7 forward spots are wide open, but you also don't want so many vets that there's only 1 spot in the top 12 realistically open for competition.

I still prefer the latter over the former, at least this way we don't get prospects rushed into the NHL, not like extra AHL time has ever hurt a prospect.

- Nucker101

Realistically most of those kids need development time, Dhalen and Pettersson are really talented kids who could earn spots. Injecting two kids into the lineup would be a nice win for the fans imo.

It's such a mess of a lineup I don't know where everyone fits other than...

You're missing the point, even if he's beat out at camp it won't matter because he has a spot locked up due to his contract. It's a hypothetical situation regarding management falsely saying there's competition when there really isn't.

If Jake Virtanen has a better camp than Eriksson you think they'll give Jake his job! Again, hypothetical, the answer is no they won't.

If there were no roster spots ( and there is ) and Jake beat out Loui , then Loui would be on LTIR for the year . As JB said we will find a way

Are talking about Greasy Gillis, Uncle Lou or Honest Jim here?

Personally I don't care if the Comets win or lose I just want the kids to learn how to become NHL players. Don't get me wrong, winning is better, but it's the other lessons I'm far more concerned with.

See article on Lind as an example.

But all those same 11 guys will be back again the following season, unless trades are made. 4 years is not a stop gap, it’s a career for some players.

Because they don't need to.

There are two spots open for the two best (undecided) to fill.

Someone is going to be exposed to waivers, and at least one person here will loose their nut because of it. My money is in BJ

Loui actually left games injured, I'm sure they injuries weren't actually that bad, but they were real injuries.

Having him sit out the last 15-20 meaningless games of the season with an injury and just telling him to start getting ready for next year even if he could play the last 5-8 games is a lot easier than telling him to sit out 82 games with a phantom injury

Ok, if Dhalen, Gaudette, Gajovich and Virtanen all have a better camp than Eriksson do you think they'll waive Eriksson and Beagle?

Better!

- LeftCoaster

Loui would have a difficult time making the Comets but that is aside from the point because the kids are not ready

I know you are being cheeky, but the “Vets” need to earn it too...

Alex Aulde on SN radio July 1 talked about the difference between a hurdle (for younger players) and a road block. Some here see one while others see the other. Based on the history of this management group, I don’t believe they will make room when someone earns a spot without screwing something else up.

Get back to us when a kid earns this spot.
BS predicting a future screw up without facts.

I just hope they're prepared to make changes the following season (2019/20) when some kids are finished their first year in the AHL. It's hard to do when you've got guys locked in for long terms.

Not really that important this year, next year maybe so. If Pettersson has a good year and transitions to center and Gaudette has a good year in Utica you've then got Pettersson Horvat and Gaudette down the middle, what do you do with Sutter and Beagle....trade Sutter I suppose.

Just spitballing....

We'll have to wait and see. As of now, I don't see any cause for alarm. But yeah, it'll be more interesting for the 19/20 season. A vet forward will likely have to be moved out eventually.

Apparently his defensive game needs a lot of work, but if he can figure it out, he's going to be an NHL'er with that skating and his ability to handle the puck.

I always like the team's USA picks a lot more than the rest

True, I see a few kids ready this year and a few next year, there's where the trouble may start.
