I know you are being cheeky, but the “Vets” need to earn it too...
Alex Aulde on SN radio July 1 talked about the difference between a hurdle (for younger players) and a road block. Some here see one while others see the other. Based on the history of this management group, I don’t believe they will make room when someone earns a spot without screwing something else up. - 1970vintage
I believe that management is diametrically opposed to what you're accusing them of.
This management group has always made room for the kids to play, if they're ready. |

Baertschi has to stay healthy , He had the same problem before Gagner got there. - VANTEL
Honestly, I didn’t want to sign Baer. To me Goldobin is Baertschi of two years ago. I say stick with the younger player and try to develop him to where Baertschi is now, and in two years this team is likely a lot better. |

Goldobin Gaunce Granlund Boucher Dahlen and Gaudette will battle for 2 spots - VANTEL
Pretty much, although I'd say Archibald or Kero are better long shots than Boucher to make the team(not that it really matters).
It'll most likely be 2 of Granlund/Goldobin/Gaudette |

Who is ready to replace him? Give me a name ?
I just posted 11 of the 13 spots are filled . 2 spots remain . Who wants/deserves them? - VANTEL
You're missing the point, even if he's beat out at camp it won't matter because he has a spot locked up due to his contract. It's a hypothetical situation regarding management falsely saying there's competition when there really isn't.
If Jake Virtanen has a better camp than Eriksson you think they'll give Jake his job! Again, hypothetical, the answer is no they won't. |

Is Jokinen still on the team? - Makita
No.
I thought he played pretty decently here since most people thought he was just brought in to be a healthy scratch, too old and slow though |

You mean like Virtanen and McCann?
They dance the fine line of marketing versus competitiveness and they don’t understand all the rules and how to best manage the roster. |

weird hypothetical.
Better one, if both Dahlen and Gaudette light it up, will the Canucks waive players who have a decent chance of getting claimed to make room for them?
Maybe for 1 of them, but not for both players IMO |

No they haven't! They haven't given kids a chance to prove themselves at the NHL level because teaching and living with mistakes is not in their M.O. |

I think Benning likes him more than Green does, but Green seems to have JB's ear so I think you're right. He's probably going to get waived and claimed or traded for something minimal during camp. |

UFA limbo.
He will end up with the Leafs on a 1 year, $700k contract... |

UFA. Probably going to be left unsigned for awhile and maybe get an offer later this month for 1 year, or just get PTO offers during training camp.

Which kind of sucks because I'd rather have him than Beagle or Eriksson or Gagner, but no way in hell one of them gets sent down. |

Goldobin is a much better skater and he's proven he can provide offence at the AHL level. |

Teams won’t trade for Goldobin (with the Canucks anyway) unless they are upgrading a pick as well. Goldobin and a 3rd for a 4th... |

I'm kinda neutral on Goldobin, love his talent/speed comb and he's a smart offensive player. I just dislike his game away from the puck, he did start backchecking a bit more down the stretch so we'll see.
I'm fine with him having to earn a roster spot. This is exactly what you want as a an organization, internal competition. it does suck that guys like Gagner/Eriksson get a free pass though. |

Agreed. Sven's top end speed for a guy his size is pretty meh. Sven is more "quick" than fast.
Plus I haven't liked Sven's game when he's away from Horvat. That's my main issue with him. |

He has actually been more productive at the NHL level, to this point in his career, than Baertschi was at the same point. |

Of course they won't
The 11 guys Vantel named are pretty much a lock to start the season in the lineup.
It's a fine line, you don't want such a shallow team that 6-7 forward spots are wide open, but you also don't want so many vets that there's only 1 spot in the top 12 realistically open for competition.
I still prefer the latter over the former, at least this way we don't get prospects rushed into the NHL, not like extra AHL time has ever hurt a prospect. |
