You don't sign veterans to four year deals and then tell them "sorry, this kid beat you out of your spot". Contracts matter! Competition for jobs my ass. - LeftCoaster
But there's 12 forwards total, why do you have to deal the ones you just signed... that doesn't make much sense. |

Why has LE magically had injuries two years in a row two days before TDL that were season ending? |

Ya it's almost as if they plan to make the kids earn it... what a crazy idea - neem55
I know you are being cheeky, but the “Vets” need to earn it too...
Alex Aulde on SN radio July 1 talked about the difference between a hurdle (for younger players) and a road block. Some here see one while others see the other. Based on the history of this management group, I don’t believe they will make room when someone earns a spot without screwing something else up. |

I don't think that is the one . It was actually a video not just audio. He definitely said the word plateaued |

Baertschi has to stay healthy , He had the same problem before Gagner got there.

Imagine if we benched LE/Gagner/Granlund for youth like Chicago did with Seabrook. He responded the next game with the game winning goal.
The team, from top to bottom, from rookie to veteran, should be held accountable for their play. No gift wrapping spots to veterans, or playing favorites with rookies. Make every player on the team earn their ice time. |

Who's talking about "deals", I'm simply saying kids go to Utica. Which isn't terrible, it's just false to say there's competition imo. |

What does that have to do with anything? He's taking a spot up out of training camp because of his contract. |

Drafting prospects who still have more room to grow physically. I feel like there's more upside that the player hasn't shown yet compared to more physically developed prospects.
Not a shot at guys like Virtanen, Woo and Gadjovich, because obviously I would draft a more physically developed prospect if I really liked his game, but in general I would lean towards drafting prospects who are lanky and still have a frame to grow into. |

I'm with you on Sven, still not sold on him as a legit top 6 forward on a good team. |

Who is ready to replace him? Give me a name ?
I just posted 11 of the 13 spots are filled . 2 spots remain . Who wants/deserves them? |

Yeah, this is pretty much the reality of the situation, those 11 will be on the team barring something crazy happening.
I do wonder if JB will stick to his word. If a guy like Dahlen lights it up in camp and pre-season, will they actually make room for him, or will be sent down since he's waiver exempt and a rookie? |

When you have certain types of prospects, such as EP or Dahlen, or even Goldobin, I personally don't think the proper way to bring them in is to have them play 9 sheltered minutes a game where they don't even get to hit their stride before the game is over, we saw that with JV, yes he made mistakes but he made bigger strides when given more opportunity.
I think this is JBs mindset with these signings. These guys are 4th liners, plain and simple. They can hold down those spots, and the guys like EP and Dahlen(assuming they are ready) can step in and play in a skill position in the top 9 as opposed to being forced into 4th line ice time until they've "paid their dues". |

I personally am fine with introducing one rookie at a time and not flooding the roster with kids. It's something that could easily change part way through the year or next summer. Let them go to Utica and grow as a group, no hurry |

THIS is my point. If Beagle was “replacing” Gagner I could see it. Upgrading the “grit” but sacrificing some scoring. Swapping one Vet for a different one who offers something different. Rousel for Eriksson? Absolutely. But the way it looks now, it’s Beagle for Gaudette... - 1970vintage
They did do that.
Sedin twins out, Rousell and Beagal in.
Move all the kids up one line.

If instead of saying “we’re going to be young, and have a lot of cap space, and our young players are going to grow into their roles” Linden had said “we’re going to sign a few depth players this off season to make sure our young players are getting the time they need in the AHL/Euro leagues and we will re-evaluate as the season progresses” I would be fully on board with what has happened to date. |
