jack johnson's contract is laughable. i'll take real gud er'day

tort's comments about jj and rutherford were (frank)ing hilarious

Lot's of people have this opinion, Jim Rutherford has made a career out of picking up older guys and getting them to perform for this team though. I suspect he knows what he's got and who he can play him with to make it effective. EG has been worse than Johnson and does't produce at all. IMO he's better, but really EG is yet to play well for us so I'm bias

I have a beagle
- manvanfan

My father grew up having packs of beagles in Cape Breton. They were big on rabbit hunts. Occasionally, one would get lost chasing rabbits and you'd have to let them run themselves to exhaustion all night before they could use the rest of the pack to find it in the morning damn near dead with dehydration.

My grandfather picked it up in the years during and after WWII when he hooked up with my grandmother but I don't think he ever had the patience to train them well. In fact, he also raised race horses and killed his prize stud with a punch between the eyes when it bit him. This horse bit a lot of people but it only bit him once.

Jesus. Your grandfather should have worked for an abattoir. Would have saved them thousands on electricity.

It's seems to me that it doesn't sound right that Lu would be really upset and looking to even up the score. He knew when he left he was going to a club the Leafs were going to target a player of there and it was a July 1st signing not a taboo offer sheet or anything. To me, the beef would be from ownership and Lu in his first year like any GM is going to check some marks on his job orders and I'm pretty sure offering a trade for Matthews "or else we offer sheet" will surely be at the top of "replace JT" options.

I've been saying since Lu signed with the Islanders that Matthews will go there... and in the end, it will be the Leafs again missing pieces chasing their tail.

- boonerbuck

They don't have all their picks so the offer would have to be very low tthat would not cost them anything or 4 x firsts . They don't have a second or third round pick next year,

I'm with Vantel, tell Edler to pull a Keith Tkachuk. Negotiate a contract extension with Benning with a gentleman's handshake instead of anything official. Then accept a trade to a contender, go play for a good team for 2-3 months and get a taste of the playoffs again, maybe even win a cup if you're lucky. Then re-sign with the Canucks on July 1st.

Suck it up and take one for the team. Maybe throw him an extra 100K-200K per year or something in his contract for doing this. I doubt Benning would even consider doing this though, he's too much of a straightforward GM.

Yup, my faith in his thinking outside the box abilities died when he failed to broker a two year 50 percent retained max deal sign and trade between Taveras and the Leafs.

When he first met my grandmothers parents during the war, they were sitting in a ice cold house because of coal rations. It was a head scratcher to him. He saw firewood everywhere. Soon he was bringing them old fences off unused fields and even their own fence eventually. The food rations were a tricky thing and they were living lean. He's dropping by with fresh quarters of pork and chickens etc. They learned not to ask and just enjoy the comforts. He was living on an air base and was also raiding the supplies for them. They really didnt know what to think about Canadians and their lack of boundaries on these things but the two families as different as they were have meshed great over the years.

I don't see the Islanders being much of a threat from an offer sheet. Marner's one of the biggest Leafs fans on the team and I can't see Matthews wanting to play for a bottom feeder. I doubt either player signs the offer sheet.

I can definitely see Matthews talking to Arizona once he hits free agency to go home. That's his prerogative and he deserves that option once reaching free agency.

I just hope he's prepared to feel the wrath of 29 other fan bases for going home to play like JT seems to have. Not an easy decision

I don't hunt with my beagle. He sure does enjoy chasing rabbits and foxes. He isn't trained to hunt but has all his basic commands. I let him chase the fox in the fields we take him to the other day. He ran too far and I lost him. He knew exactly where he lived though, came back himself. Stubborn breed but quite smart.

I like to hear that from him! His size and net-front presence would be welcome providing he shows he belongs.

My hope for him is probably a reliable 3rd line winger. If he could turn out to be an Anders Lee type would be awesome.

They wouldn't be able to offer sheet until after July 1st, so the picks would be in 2020...at least that is how I believe it works.
