I’ve seen Soy play several times in Victoria. Scored some big goals. One of those “not the fastest, or most skilled, but filled with drive and gets the job done” kinda guys. Hope he makes a good impression and gets a shot with the Comets this year.

He had 3 very productive seasons with Victoria. Agree...add some depth on the farm.

I thought he was the 3rd best player available in the whole draft. He was probably my most favorite 1st round pick by the canucks

Hughes was #4 on my list of prospects. It was the best choice, I just don't see Van having the overall make up to make it work. If Van had a true #1 RHD for him to play with, I would have been crazy happy. We don't and there isn't one in the pipeline.

Next year has a lot of really good LHD.

You should but it might actually make a decent pairing this season

If Hughes makes the team.

Make Hughes chase the opposition around and Guds to not leave the front of the net.

I thought we essentially won the lottery outside of the top 2 picks. I literally cheered with my buddies at every pick after 2. I think Hughes is going to be the best offensive defenseman the canucks have ever had (i atleast think he has the potential to be anyway)

The player I wanted in UFA to make me very happy was Roussel. I thought he was exactly the best fit for this teams needs. When I found out they were pursuing him I was thrilled.

Then to find out we were adding Schaller was a bonus.

Beagle I understood the need but was not a guy I targeted but I knew Canucks would target.

I know Canucks will get a bad report card from the know it all media but I think this team will finally after a half decade , be fun to watch

As Manvan admitted he did not like the pick at all. He came in and complained. I believe it was Bettmanhatesus also was very vocal and there was one more.

Whenever Canucks do something someone will be pissed. It doesn't matter . We all have different opinions. Wait until Stecher signs then come see a blowup from our Mod and friend Makita

The Canucks wanted to bring in veteran, defensive-minded players to eat up some tough minutes and make life easier for their top young players. I have no problem with that. Heck, I think it’s a smart thing to do.

What I do have a problem with is handing out long-term contracts to role players – particularly aging ones.

Jay Beagle has averaged just 20 points per 82 games throughout his career and is turning 33 in October. Peak Jay Beagle was nothing to write home about and we’ve almost certainly already seen it.

Committing four years and $3 million annually to an aging role player is not a good investment. It is likely going to look ugly in a couple years when the Canucks (ideally) start to turn a corner.

If they were adamant about signing a gritty depth center they could have inked Wagner, let’s say, for two fewer years at less than half the cost.

Admittedly, I am a fan of Antoine Roussel. He is physical, he can kill penalties, hold his own in possession, and is generally good for 25+ points.

With that said, he’s a 28-year-old coming off a five-goal campaign. I’m not sure that warrants a four-year pact worth $3 million per.

Given the state of the team, I don’t have much issue with overpaying in terms of dollars. I just don’t like the idea of having ~$6 million per tied up in a pair of role players when they’re in their early-to-mid 30s, declining, and the team is expected to be on the upswing.

Dylan DeMelo and Christian Folin both UFA RHD. Could be some decent depth options.

What Toddo doesn't know is that at this point in time Vancouver is not a favored destination. He also didn't mention that there was 9 other GMs bidding on this player.

He was on the coaches radar of players that would make this team better so who gives a (frank) what some pencil pusher who has no connection with this team thinks.

Complaining about things that he doesn't have a clue about is what keeps Toddo employed as a writer. I don't read his blogs nor do I see myself doing it in the future so it is not really an issue.

Like I said earlier yesterdays moves will get a lot of bad print by media that really don't know our teams needs

Was on mynhltraderumors.com. Teams that sucked on first day of free agency.

I'll explain Van's moves. (because we don't already know why)

Started off decent with Dorsett. Lost that early season (among other injuries) Archie comes in and at the end team does a bit better. Welcome in Roussel.

They were soft, bring in Schaller.

Lost Henrik, need points from somewhere. Better then paying 7 million a season for a winger they don't need. In come Beagle, free's up Sutter to HOPEFULLY provide a bit more offence then he has.

Baertschi Horvat Boeser
Leipsic Sutter Roussel
Virtanen Gagner Granlund
Schaller Beagle Eriksson
Goldy

Sorry nighthawk.
