I don't get why anyone would want to break up G and Coots or have G switch back from LW. They both had career years playing together.

The good outweigh the bad. I'm actually a bit surprised Hextall made the move. Expected low budget moves this off-season.

Complaining about JVR's lack of defense is like complaining about lack of scoring from a 4th liner. Can't be out there fielding 12 Kopitars.

I'd put him on the second line. Let a pass first winger like Voracek feed him pucks. Could even open up the ice for Patrick to get his offense going. Helps out massively on the PP.

With all these young guys on their entry level deals, maybe you should start speeding up this process while most are under the clubs control. granted have some high $ pieces coming off the books in the next few years.

As someone said that's when you hope your development pays off and you replace them with kids making 1m or less

Roussel is a 4th line player at ES. I don't want to be paying 4th liners 3.25 million, and, as you said, especially not for 4 years.

Hextall has an obvious philosophy. Strong 200 foot players up the middle at center. Okay with wingers who aren't great defensively if they can score.

For me I'd much rather keep Jake and move on from Simmonds if money is the issue.

Is it not a little concerning that Toronto just let him walk for nothing considering how many goals he scored for them? I get that they have other guys to sign and were going all in on Tavares but to let a 4 time 27 goal scorer just walk away seems a little strange to me. It is not like he is a fourth liner expendable guy.

2nd stints worked out pretty well for Bernie Parent and Mark Recchi, and to a lesser extent, Brian Boucher.

If the Flyers were deciding between JVR and Simmonds, they probably made the right decision. Probably best to move on from Simmonds at this point if they want to maximize his value. They could just play things out and let him walk next offseason I guess. It's not like they're dying for more prospects.

As far as 3C goes, I'd much rather see the team give the younger players a look before committing to someone like Filppula who is terrible anyway. The top 6 projects to be really good now and the young wingers like NAK and Lindblom could really help a young 3C work into the role. If they end up needing to upgrade, they can always grab someone at the deadline.

If we hadn't just got JVR I'd say maybe. But you trade for him now and you're putting him or JVR in the bottom 6.

If I'm making any big move right though the piece going out is probably Simmonds, not Jake.

They're obviously all in on Taveras. If they don't get him, they've weakened their team unless they do something else.

IMO the flyers are prepared to do just that or they know wayne wants more.
