I predict there will be a lot of times that the fan base loves JVR but there will also be a lot of times that they are frustrated with him.

Teams that wanted to add scoring and miss on JVR and Tavares might be more interested in a move for simmonds.

I think so too. It would be interesting to see what assets he's willing to put in play.

I do wonder if he dips into the prospect cupboard this time. I 've believed the rumors involving possibly Calgary and Buffalo, I doubt RoR though unless salary retained by Buffalo.

Yep

He scores one way, around the net.

Occasionally with a decent wrist shot that he has. But 90% of his goals are from 5 feet out

That really makes him the perfect player to play with Voracek offensively. The downside is that neither Voracek or JVR are very good defensively away from the puck.

Is it not a little concerning that Toronto just let him walk for nothing considering how many goals he scored for them? I get that they have other guys to sign and were going all in on Tavares but to let a 4 time 27 goal scorer just walk away seems a little strange to me. It is not like he is a fourth liner expendable guy.

Keep hearing JVR is a liability defensively.....he’s not. Under Babcock in TO he wouldn’t have seen the ice if he was that deficient...now he won’t be up for the Selke trophy any time soon, that’s part of JVR’s game that has improved.

With Nylander, Marner, Mathews all coming due in the next couple of years it was going to be hard for them. Add JT and also a couple of young d that are going to see decent raises ...it’s not an issue today in Toronto, but come a year from now it’s going to be tough.

He's strictly a LW isn't he. A 3C would go much further right now imo.

Was it a little concerning that the flyers traded him straight up for Luke Schenn?

They won't say it, but they're terrified that Matthews is gonna hit 'em for 8x12 and Marner for 8x10/11. They had already signed Marleau for 6.25 and Nylander's an RFA now

They just looked at it and said the young guys are the core, and Marleau is a Babcock favorite. Can't keep everybody -- they were lucky they got Kadri done before he went back-to-back 30s, because he'd be out the door, too

If they are going all in on Tavares, that's gonna be at least 10 aav on the books and the same in a year for Mathews. I don't think they really had much of a choice. Plus, with the high taxes in Canada, JVR's camp may have been asking for 8-8.5 per from the Leafs too.

It just dawned on me that the Isles lost JT for nothing, even with a GM change.
