A little in the regard that fans get caught in the middle of it -- those people are just working stiffs like the rest of us. Their franchise is a clown show, has been since the early 1990s, and something that happens every 15 -20 years or so -- an elite talent walking in free agency -- happened to them today - AllInForFlyers
I can't even imagine being a long time fan of that team with everything they put their fanbase through over the years. As annoying as our front office has been in the past nothing compares to the Isles.
It shouldn't be surprising at this point but I just don't get how they let him walk for nothing. The team should've set a deadline before the draft to get a deal done then moved him when it didn't. Not complicated. |

IMO the JVR deal is pretty good all things considered... only 5 years (he's 29) and its front loaded.... with no NTCs. With the cap going up to almost $80 mil the dollars aren't that bad either. 4th line players are getting almost $3+ million right now.
I'm pretty excited to have Reimer back (and not giving up prospects and picks to make it happen). |

Exactly -- you can't risk him just walking for free. You can't. It would've sucked to deal him in-season, for maybe pennies on the dollar. But you can't let him walk for free

Watching the deals for 4th liners that made me nervous. I was worried Hextall would join the insanity to get the 3c. So glad he didn't.

I'm still processing the O'Reilly trade
There's some interesting permutations to it, questions I kinda have on the Blues' end |

I said it earlier, but I was legit scared they were gonna go three years, $5 million on Tyler Bozak
No matter what anyone thinks of JVR, he's gonna score goals or you can move him if for whatever reason the fit is all wrong -- he was in demand today, will be until the skating starts to go. Probably won't happen for another 2-3 years
But it's the contracts like Bozak's that absolutely kill you in FA. They absolutely kill you. Because he's not great defensively -- at all -- and the offense was already starting to decline, at 32 years old |

Lost in all the Tavares stuff is Trotz left the Stanley Cup champs to go coach that team, who you can almost safely say has the leagues worst roster now. Good lord. |

Nothing overtly negative or crazy; just how my mind works.
It loops back to Paul Statsny.
Obviously, he was UFA at the end of the season. He had played there for years and people were legit shocked they traded him at the deadline. He was, too
What makes it interesting to me is that if you spent $5 million for 32-year-old Tyler Bozak, then dealt assets for $7.5 million ROR, why not just keep the assets, extend 32-year-old Statsny, and then use those assets you were willing to move for different pieces?
It's not that the O'Reilly deal is good or bad. It just continues an odd set of moves dating back to two firsts for Schenn -- their asset management is a little puzzling to me

If I'm Trotz right now I'm thinking I blew it. I'm back in Nashville when they started. At least Lou will be hated more though.
Has a RFA ever refused his QO then signed elsewhere for about that amount. Cause I'm thinking Ho-sang is begging to get out of there. |

Hmmm.
Vancouver's still brutal...and this is gonna sound crazy, but I look at the Blackhawks' roster and farm system and I would honestly rather have NYI's.
But yeah. It's gonna be painful for a couple of years. Trotz is gonna have to stabilize it
Adding Flip and Komarov today did not help at all, either -- brutal, brutal moves |

I'd rather have the Isles farm system but no doubt I'd rather have the Blackhawks NHL roster to work with right now. Can't argue with the Canucks though. They're in rough shape.
I just saw someone in the Isles thread say Flip was brought in to help stablize their PK. |

I mean from a basketball standpoint it didn't make a ton of sense. The Sixers clearly have better pieces and aren't in the same conference as Houston and Golden State. Have fun playing with that ugly love child of Drake and Ben Stiller I guess?
Sixers can still go out and make a trade and rival Boston. That's all they can do. - hereticpride
sure it does LA is the basketball mecca of the world and Lebron's kid is going to school in LA too
Lebron won't be remembered for being as good as jordan but he'll be remembered as a laker |

I think they have a core that are all somewhat similar in age and are going for it. Ironically they also draft well and have a good amount of prospects that they are sort of hurting by doing this, but I don’t think the moves are dumb necessarily.
I think they’re better than they were last year for sure. |

They're definitely more...interesting? Berglund never fulfilled his potential. Replacing him with Bozak really is a wash -- Bozak's overpaid, but he'll produce what Berglund would
The question is if ROR is significantly better than Statsny --he's younger, obviously. Statsny's not nearly as good a skater as he was.
But is the difference enough to move the needle?
I am definitely curious to find out. The Blues have sneaky-good talent. Could definitely make the West more interesting than a few of their rivals might think

The structure of.the deal also mitigates the risk of the pact to 4 years. JVR will be 33 at that point and worst case scenario a buy out would be 1.67x2. I doubt they will need to go down that road considering he doesnt play a punishing style of hockey.
