I don’t hate the guy, but I’m trying to remember a time when Simmonds was a consistent physical presence out there 5 on 5.
- flyer_nutter
He's been a consistent physical presence his entire Flyers career except for last season when he had multiple injuries that clearly affected him.

just seems a lot of money to be paying someone to play down there. |

Bozak got 3 years $15 million from STL.
Maybe the Flyers are done? |

He was a gamer, that’s for sure.
Not great at D, but effort was never in doubt.
I’ll kind of miss him.
Could be a good #7 D somewhere. |

He’s damn good as a net front PP guy but beyond that? I like him, would keep him if the deal is right but I’m not in love with Wayne. - flyer_nutter
The Flyers aren't a tough team to play against and losing Simmonds doesn't help that.
I was frustrated with him this year, gave him a pass after hearing about the injury. To me, he's the emotional leader of this team. I can see Konecny taking on that role someday but not right now. |

How would you feel if Simmonds plays out his year here and then walks out as a UFA for no return other then helping them this year?
I think this scenario is pretty likely unless the offers for him are so good they then trade him. Coming off an injury and no long term deal he is a one year rental, which lowers his trade value. - Marc D
If given the choice I think simmer stays in Philly, maybe even a team friendly deal. He really respected and loved Ed Snider and he seems to still enjoy the Philly community, and players on the team. Plus this team is only getting better, so it's not like he'd be leaving a team that's in shambles to go to a better place. |

I dislike agreeing with MJL but he is right. Simmonds has been consistent since coming over in the Richards trade. Plus he is one of the few guys we have who stands up for his teammates. I see no reason why Simmonds won't be back to his usual self this upcoming season. It may take him a little bit to find his timing and form again but he will be back |

I respect John Tavares a great deal because playing for the Isles the last nine years had to feel ridiculous at times
At the same time, your last meetings with teams were Wednesday. It's Sunday. Teams that pitched you are waiting for your decision while free agency has started
I mean, come on, man. At some point, this isn't rocket science -- you just have to make the call and step into the unknown. It's like that every day for us folks in the real world when we change jobs. Yeah, you're under contract, but you're gonna get $70 million-plus for locking it in
Hell, the way this has gone, if there hadn't been an interview period and he had to start the process today, he might not have signed until training camp |

I love this scenario, but not that optimistic about a team friendly deal. |

I am not joking

3rd line at ES isn't "down there" if the guy is also going to be part of PP1, which JVR will be. |

He's been on a team friendly deal his entire time here. He deserves to be paid. Hopefully they can work something out. |

Anyone see the video on G calling JVR a pigeon for a 2013 game? Why a pigeon? - WhirlingDervish
Pigeon: describes a player that isn’t good enough to score goals by himself, so he picks up the trash of his more skilled linemates. Often used as trash talk, as made famous by Claude Giroux |

Top six is locked up for the foreseeable future. If Frost transitions to wing at the NHL level like some expect I just don't see where Simmonds fits long term. |

You could also say the Flyers missed PEB last yr too. Definitely would have helped their woeful PK.
It’s water under the bridge. BSchenn was a very good player. Hopefully the two 1st round picks pan out. Potentially they both seem likely to.
I’m more worried that signing JVR means goodbye Wayne. I know intangibles don’t score goals but Wayne does both. Very difficult to replace him imo. - Marc D

[quote=BiggE]Islanders bringing back Thomas Hickey. Well, if that doesn't convince JT to get out of town I don't know what will.

Was our PK good with Bellemare because I'm not sure it was. Bellemare and Vandevelde were our PK starters and I'm pretty sure Bellemare wasn't an above average faceoff man. |
