I think Riley Nash would be a perfect grab for Buffalo. Out of all the UFAs he is the one I want Buffalo to grab the most. He won't cost a lot and can play center up and down the lineup without missing a beat, as he proved in Boston last season.

I think Evan Rodrigues will be just fine in a 3C role.

I’d try and get a responsible 4C you can put in some defensive spots

But what if we could get rid of the good players with bad attitudes and bring back good players with good attitudes?
- Shadman306

one guy throws his teammates under the bus, the other guy sits in the corner sucking his thumb saying he has to be better, another turns red-faced at a press conference, one does blow, another is a pot head, one doesn't listen to his coaches, another misses Ted Nolan, another blames the team for his crappy stats in a contract year..

who do we keep?

How about we keep both of them as they are both good players.

How about we get rid of crappy players and let the good ones stay.

- Der Kaiser

because most of "the good players" lead us to a 31st place finish.

But hey, just change the bottom 6 and its 5-10 more wins. Which would be a 30th place finish instead of 31st.

I agree with this... We haven't seen the best Erod yet. I can see him netting 20

And those have gotten the Sabres to _______ place in 2018?

Those practices, his work ethic has elevated ____ as a player?

Call him a good 2nd line center. That’s what he is.

A good leader, there’s 0 evidence

- sbroads24

So RoR is responsible for the standing of the team? He will be traded and we will become a much better team without him correct? I mean that's what you indicated his value being yesterday (negative value/addition by subtraction).

And there is about as much evidence that he's a bad leader as he is a good one. I would welcome any indication Botts, Housley or other members of the team said about him that makes this so obvious to you. The reason we would be trading him is due to his cap hit long term AND that Mittelstadt looks like a stud. If one of those two things weren't the case, I'd imagine he is not included in these trade talks.

I don't deny he's slightly overpaid. I will argue with you until the end of time that he's a valuable player and that your "what did he do for the team" argument holds literally no water at all. Plenty of great players have played on bad teams.

Follow up question: Is Rick Nash a bad player? When he was on Columbus, his team sure was...What about Hall on Edmonton? poop, what about McDavid? Are they culpable for their respective teams' failures like RoR or are they good players on bad teams? Can only be one of those two...

Throw ROR on the garbage heap.

Build the team around Jack.

Because the record w Jack is far more impressive than the record with ROR.

All of the evidence of RoR being a leader stopped abruptly after Eichel was drafted.

There havent been "RoR practices" in years.

Is he solely responsible? Absolutely not. Partly, absolutely.

And yes, I think it will be addition by subtraction. And that’s not because he’s a bad player. He’s a bad fit here, and it’s been evident for 2 years now.

It’s not a coincidence that he leads the team in ice time for forwards and we are the lowest scoring team in hockey.

He’s deployed like a franchise center because of his reputation and his pay check. Even those minutes out between guys like Rodrigues and Mittelstadt and I’d bet money we score more goals.

He doesn’t score goals 5 on 5. He doesn’t generate shots 5 on 5.

He does really well defensively. That’s his value

Fine, over reaction on my part.

They all stopped when it was clear RoR wasn't going to be THE guy.

The double standard here is amazing

If Jack Eichel just stays a 60 point player, despite us tanking for him, and giving him a giant contract, he will be public enemy number 1.

But “It’s not O’Reilly’s fault” we decided to pony up assets and give him the largest contract in team history at the time.
