I heard it discussed in an interview a few days ago. Don't remember who, probably a TSN guy. Said the league would have a big issue with it and it would cause major problems for insurance. If it becomes a clear move to get around the 7 year limit, they'd act.

The insurance angle of it alone was enough to make me think it makes no sense for Tavares.

- Lunaion

You mean the theoretical insurance of the long term deal? Or like a company that insures the contracts would object?

And I totally agree Tavares would be insane to do it, that's why I don't think it's real circumvention because the down side for him is enormous. It's a moral gray area for sure, but not necessarily illegal.

Ideally I'd like to see a 4 or 5 year limit on players under 27 and a 3 year limit on players over. But the PA would never go for that without a way bigger piece of HRR.

The New York Rangers are reportedly interested in signing pending free agent Ryan Reaves.

The New York Post suggested that Reaves will likely earn roughly $2.25 million per season on his next contract. The 31-year-old would be a protector for the younger skilled players on the Rangers roster. He had four goals, six assists and 94 penalty minutes in 79 games with the Penguins and Golden Knights last season.

Parayko was yesterday's rumor. Today, he's out and Thomas is in. Now people are saying Thomas is out, but Kyrou could be in. I'd take any of these guys straight up for RoR, so it's all still fun to hear.
- Lunaion

I guess we will see

Parayko + would definitely be my preference
Can’t wait for JT to decide so that other teams can call & hopefully bump up the price for ROR

What's your hunch on perron or neal as ufa's to buffalo?

- Boss34

I haven't heard there names mentioned but I can't see Neal coming here, think he's asking for around 6 a year. Perron is another player I can take or leave.

I wonder if JT walks will the Islanders become a player for ROR? I wouldn't mind Kieffer Bellows but not sure if he would be available or what else they would add if he was. I could see some sort of deal worked out between Buffalo and the Islanders.
- Sabrehagan

I think they’d call,
but imo the best thing NyI could/should do is to burn it down

All of their best assets/players are their youngest guys

They should trade Boychuck, Leddy, Bailey, etc
Get picks & prospects to build depth behind Barzal, Bellows, Wahlstrom, Dobson, etc
And try to out-tank Ottawa for Hughes

Then they’d be set up for the long haul

The concept was that Tavares taking a 1 year deal would want insurance to protect his long term earnings....while taking the riskiest deal imaginable.

I'm with you on the 7/8 year deals. They are crazy for 95% of players and generally terrible for the league.

I wanted to listen to the Blue's guy after the twitter spat between him and hamilton, but haven't had a chance yet.

I think you're right on Dreger, it was interesting to hear his take on that.

- Lunaion

Did I hear that right about Thomas sitting out? I don’t know anything abou the twitter spat.

That sounds more like he’s tops on OUR list

Idk if that means we are tops on HIS list though?

If that were the case,
I think we’d be hearing more about it

Not that it can’t still happen,
but it certainly doesn’t sound like a done deal

- jdfitz77

He was in buffalo yesterday looking at houses :/

That may come in the form of Carter Hutton, the top goaltender on the UFA market and one that brings a history of pushing young goaltenders to their full capabilities. Hutton was in Buffalo on Wednesday

Some news from our pal @reporterchris today on @Sportsnet960.
Cam Ward to CHI on 1-year deal, ~$2.5M. Carter Hutton to BUF, details unknown. Jonathan Bernier to DET on a 3-year deal.

Sounds like Paul Statsny is going to remain in WPG but they do need to move a bit of money out.

There’s no way he agreed to a deal,
then immediately called a real estate agent to look at houses the same day

Get Parayko, then move Risto is my dream scenario. Landing Thomas might be even better though. Kyrou + for RoR + seems much more realistic though, and I'm good with it.

I heard something about him sitting out, but I think it was here, so not certain if it's accurate.

The Blue's guy got called out by one of the St Louis Athletic guys, and Hamilton really threw him under the bus. Hamilton later deleted it.

I don't think RoR gets you Parayko, but if he did:

RoR gets you an upgrade over Risto, Risto gets you a winger you want/need. Makes as much sense as dealing RoR for a winger to me....except it's better.

Move Risto for what?

If the + we get with Parayko includes a young winger or 2,
I’m ecstatic about a defense looking like:
Dahlin-Parayko
Scandella-Ristolainen
Guhle-Nelson
