Do you guys think that Tyler Johnson's contract is a bad contract? I know that he's a prime guy that the Lightning would want to get rid of to make space, but is it a bad contract?
- Pete V

No way, he makes less than JT Miller and scores more

I think you mentioned taking Gaborik to get another player packaged in. I am all about that. I can wear his Jersey again.

They're pretty stupid alright.

There's some rumor floating around Twitter that Melnyk got an offer from one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil to buy the team and rejected it but is still negotiating with him.

And their 1st round pick. League needs to take that team away from Melnyk and Co.

I noticed that Gaborik's hometown and Chytil's are about 40 miles away from one another, he could be a good mentor for him

You think a package of Sponner/Zucc/Nam/Smith, Lindgren/Hajek/Day/Miller/Gilmour/Crowley/Rykov and a goalie would get Karlsson?

- tomburton99

I'll say this, I do think that some over-estimate what Karlsson will return in a trade for the Sens. Karlsson is going to test the open market, and I can only see a couple of teams in the league that could persuade him not to do that (that would actually have the space).

So, if you feel like you are trading for a guy for one year with a lot of risk he doesn't re-sign, you aren't going to be interested at a prohibitive price. Just think that Karlsson won't return nearly as much as people think.

I disagree with you (this is well-known) on this one and one of us will unmercifully mock the other one if/when he gets traded.

I am just wondering what the price would be for the Rangers to acquire Johnson if they took Callahan off the Lightning's hands as well. I like Johnson. Think he's a good player.

I think its average. Not great but not bad. I mean he is what, a mid 20's goal scorer and a 50's point player.

Exactly. It's going to be a blast. Although it will probably come out somewhere in the gray area of no one is right.

Maybe. But do you agree Ottawa wouldn't want Spooner, Nam, Smith, Gilmour, Crowley and goalie prospect.

I think the price would probably be pretty low. You'd be clearing $10.8M of cap space off their books, more than half of which is dedicated to a guy that may not even belong in the NHL. If you start talking retained-dollars, then the price would creep up.

I think some trades are still coming

but, I don't think they are going to be looking to make spectacular additions that suddenly make them a contender this coming season

they'll do a few things that'll get the blog going though, they always do

- jimbro83

It’s not at all about being a contender next year!!! Of course you don’t trade unless you extend him . I don’t see logic of passing on a 2x Norris trophy winner in the prime of his career because maybe Pionk or DeAngelo become that guy? Look at prospects. We don’t have any right d men!!! You’re just going to waste prime years of guys on team now? There’s certain kids that are off limits, but these opportunities don’t come around often and Gorton should at least explore.
