Not really related, but looking back the 2005 draft produced:
- Carey Price
- Tuukka Rask
- Jonathan Quick
- Ben Bishop - eichiefs9
2007-2017 there’s been 3 goalies selected in the 1st or 2nd round that have panned our so far. Obviously 2017/2016 is still early but shows goalies take much longer to develop. Even if you get it right you’re waiting 4-5 years, sometimes more.
we had a couple of our own misses in that time in Halverson and Lafleur
what kills me is the team is loaded in net with prospects already
still baffling to me - jimbro83
No doubt. Especially since there were some guys that were potential first rounders that were still on the board. I would have taken Wilde. And then I would have taken Thomas.

I really hope we all have egg on our face in a few years with that pick. Somebody in the organization fell in love with him. There's no doubt about that.

I just don't get why the org. doesn't send Allaire out and say "this is my guy, its my pick", even if its complete bullpoop.

if a goalie is so high or so beloved by the masses that do these things you can understand the pick, but it literally feels like the only ones that were was the NYR. It’s a very arrogant pick, like we’ll show you mfers!

They passed on some good players to pick him, really makes me wonder if the plan was to take him at 48 but once it was traded they didn’t think he’d be there in the 3rd round. Still a dumb pick. Very aggravating.

I agree with you, but if you look at the Atlantic, it's a bit of a different story. Four goalies drafted in first round and two in the Top 5: Luongo and Price, #4 and #5 overall respectively. Vasilevskiy at # 19 and Rask at #21 (or 22).

It's just so weird, like if Olaf was the consensus top goalie in the draft class I am sure all of us would be semi ok with it. But to pick someone that high who wasn't even top 10 for some people. Just strange
