He was good to great on Kings for the first like three seasons of his career and then fell off a damn cliff. He's sucked for at least seven years. - Victoro311
Is there a chance its a Torts issue? I just assume JR knows something we dont which is why he's doing this. He's not often wrong. |

That’s fair and I agree, but god is this a painful one. - kfinl170
Yeah that's cus Johnson sucks. Anything above vet minimum is a bad contract. Man, Rutherford is bad at evaluating the value of replacement level defensemen. |

Wikipedia is already saying he is a Pittsburgh Penguins:
"John Joseph Louis "Jack" Johnson III (born January 13, 1987) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL)"
What the hell. Hopefully he plays well. |

Maybe we should've made a play to get D Pouliot back, he would've only cost $1.5 million for 3 years...maybe we could've had him play PUBG with Sid or something to ingratiate him into friendship?
This deal will haunt the franchise unless they buy him out in a year or 2...even then... |

That's surprisingly optimistic of you, Sammy.
There's always a chance its a Torts issue. He's been especially bad since Torts came into town but he's sucked for a lot longer than Torts' tenure. Its highly unlikely he'll be reclaimed here. There's a faint glimmer of hope that those CBJ teams were bad and Johnson was being utilized in the wrong role and then he and Torts were just a bad fit when CBJ became good, but that's a very faint glimmer of hope. |

Can anyone help me with this...
Austin Lemieux is at the Pens Dev Camp. He is there for a second year. He is going to ASU for school and to play hockey. Says his dream is to play for the Penguins. Is that possible? Doesn’t he have to go throught the draft? Or can he do 4 years at ASU and sign as a free agent? |

He drafted the guy but he refused to play for the canes and was traded. This is GMJR's last gasp to get "his man" stats and salary be dammed. |

Even still, entering a steep decline after only like 3 years is pretty absurd. |

Steep decline hit around 29. He has always put up okay points (inflated some by PP) and sucked at defense. |

After a certain threshold the term doesn't matter anymore. I prefer 6 X 2.4 over 3 X 5 - Victoro311
agreed, it wouldnt bog down the team. Lets hope its DKs quote of 6 yrs at 2.4 AAV... Oy 6 yrs |
|
|
|
If true, they are essentially replacing Hunwick with Johnson at the same cap hit.
Johnson on the 3rd pair for under 2.5m AAV is solid add. |

Radio report just said its 5 years 3.33 per... YUCK!!!
To make matters worse... They (Gonchar and Martin) said at the end of the year Oleksiak looked way better on LD then on RD. Now hes gonna be back to out position again where they seem to think hes worse off....
As much as I used to laugh at Maddens shiitt and I hope this one is wrong but he was right and first to report on Cole being dealt, the report of the pens definitely listening to offers on Kessel, and now this Johnson news. |

Johnson is nearly a point per game player in the playoffs and Torts didn’t play him this year. It could very well be a Torts problem.
I always thought Johnson was pretty tough to play against for the Pens, always seemed to be in on important goals. Ofcourse that’s just my eye test, I can’t back that up with graphs or anything. |

Love the signing. Added toughness and character, something this team severely lacks. |

.@MarkMaddenX first reported that the Penguins intend to sign defenseman Jack Johnson Sunday to a five-year deal. Confirming that. Source says it will be in the $16 million range total (between $3-$3.5 million AAV).

When it comes to the Pens, Madden is usually informed. So if he reports it, it is likely.
That said, 5 years is too looooong.

Sid bringing in his BFF. I don't see him trading him so soon. I have a feeling we'll be watching him play LW if he sucks at D. |
