I heard about the trade of Sheary and Hunwick and it was 5 minutes of pure happiness. Then, I hear about Jack Johnson getting 5 F'n years and I want to cry like a baby. FVCK!!!!!!

I'm just praying it's 5 years because we're only paying him 2 mil.

- madmike71

2 years at 5 mil is better than 5 years at 2. That term is nauseating

Nail Yakupov? Cheap. Stick him with Geno. I think Geno would welcome the mentor role at this point in his career
- stowerkraut

Yak is a RW. We can't fit anymore of those on the roster.

Sorry...Madden never said a dollar figure. Forget about the $2M figure.

I just made a comment that the term is too long regardless of the salary...

I can't believe it.....just can't believe it. JR looks like a genius with dumping Sheary and Hunwick with nothing retained and he throws it away on a garbage player.

.@MarkMaddenX first reported that the Penguins intend to sign defenseman Jack Johnson Sunday to a five-year deal. Confirming that. Source says it will be in the $16 million range total (between $3-$3.5 million AAV).

this eases the burden a little bit, but the 5 years is still the ugly part. Wouldn't be shocked if we bought out those last 2 years down the road.

I wonder if it's front loaded to facilitate a trade eventually

So glad that JR learned his lesson with Hunwick.

I never thought Johnson would get five years. Never.

GMJR must have seen how easily Washington shed Orpik's contract and said F it.

This (frank)ing blows. Johnson-Oleksiak is going to be a bad pairing. At least the cap hit is under 4 mil.

Hopefully Jaques Martin and Gonchar can work some magic with him.

Putting Sprong with Sheahan on the fourth line is a receipt for disaster. He needs to be in the top 9 with one of our skilled centers. The third line with Brassard is probably the best fit right now.

its amazing to imagine the per year salary Jack Johnson would have demanded on a shorter term contract..GMJR had to go 5 years!? on a 31 year old to lower the per year to 3.2! how can anyone think this is good.

Madden says Jack Johnson has already agreed to a 5 year deal with the Penguins and cannot be made official until July 1.

It's Madden....but still...holy balls this could be really bad.

Can Mario fire Rutherford before the contract becomes official. I like Rutherford, he's a great guy and has been pretty good here, but I'd rather fire him immediately than take on that contract.
