I haven't read all the comments...but what about buying out Marian Gaborik.
Do the sens hold on to him because they are cheap and hope he doesn't get injured. Then buy him out next year? When we need cap space to resign guys if they haven't been resigned already (hopefully).

Rumors have been circling locally for months about missing payroll, NHL stepping in, imminent sale. Kinda agree with whoever said where there is smoke there is fire. No smoke. Feels like bar talk / wishful thinking that is just growing, but nothing behind it.

And again with Alfie as President Hockey Ops nonsense? He tried the gig. He didn't like the gig or want to put in the work/travel to do the gig. He's not qualified for the gig... and Gary Bettman beat him to the HHOF.

I would think people would want legitimate leadership and experts in key roles should the team ever change ownership... not fan favorites who have no experience and have already quit on the team not once but twice... but this is Ottawa, so clearly Alfie is the right choice.

Perhaps it is time for you to post on the team site you actually support.

You mean the team you used to support? Hey great call on switching allegiances. Really attached yourself to a rising star.

Perhaps he should consider if switching teams was the best choice

If you switch teams you should delete your account. Just seems like common sense.

I know right? It's like a Leafs/Sens game at the Canadian Tire Center in here...

I'm not 100% but I was under the impression that as of right now the Sens can not buyout Gaborik because of his back issues, he is seeing a specialist meaning that at least for the summer he is on Injured reserve and can not be bought out.

I think it's a bit different because of who they are as well, Burrows is not well liked in Ottawa with a bad contract and I think it's time to retire as he has little to no value.

Gaborik is still a bit name in hockey and if he gets healthy, he has still lost a step but can still play. There is still value there and if he has a bit of a bounce back that value will go up a tiny bit.

Good points. He may even be valuable as a veteran for a youthful team

Nobody complains about the Canadiens. Fans are great and when Montreal comes to town it is a fun event for everyone.

Leaf games are different. Many of the Leaf fans are obnoxious, they drink too much and they create a poisenous enviornment. Over the years, Sens fans will buy their hockey packages and sell the Leaf game tickets to someone else. Not a nice place to bring kids. Last Leaf game I went to their was a blue and white fan puking in the stands. If you have any doubts just ask the attendants about how much they hate working Leaf games.

So, Capital Sports floats a refinancing of $135m and issues a minor press release that does not even mention Melnyk. I think we are getting near the end.

EM is the owner of Capital Sports Holdings, so just means he is cleaning things up. Making sure he has the money for EK if he does agree to stay.

No it is more than that as it represents the first charge against assets including cash flow. Melnyk is not mentioned in the press release. I think it is a door being opened that enables Melnyk to walk away.

David Pagnotta reports that one of the financiers is someone that has expressed previous interest in Sens

I would love to see Melnyk replaced as owner.
The announcement says to me that Melnyk was able to roll over some long term debt with some cash left over for club operations. If anything, it suggests that he`ll be able to handle a couple of down years.
Are there any articles or stories from legitimate sources that confirm Melnyk did not meet payroll in the past season?

No, I have seen the rumours but no confirmation that he missed payroll.

Recent story in Ottawa Citizen.

"Lisa and Arnie Jr. were both involved in the losing bid for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats as major local investors with JDS Uniphase co-founder William Sinclair.

They were so committed that sources told this newspaper in 2016 the group was willing to buy the team from Eugene Melnyk and move it to their proposed arena at LeBreton, a transaction that would have taken hundreds of millions. They are, however, guarded about their privacy and weren’t available for interviews Friday.'

There is huge money on the sidelines along with massive redevelopment plans. It is not just one person or even one group. Something will give. Money is like water. It always finds its level. See full story at: http://ottawacitizen.com/...lerships-to-toronto-group

I agree with you on this. Thanks for saving the team Melnyk and doing your best to keep it going.
I look at the Financing like a home mortgage. Of course an interested buyer would get in on the financing, if Melnyk can't pay they take back the home (Sens). Now you have a new owner.
