Sheary and Hun for a pick.

Please don't use the cap space for JJ. Please!!!!

- Thorny87

Yeah there will be a hole on LW then. I never saw Kessel being moved this year.

Sheary would be worth a 2nd I would assume.

Then taking Hunwick drops it to a 4th

Taking on Hunwicks contract lowers that value.

3rd or 4th i'd guess.

I don't think there is a hole on LW. Still have Jake, Hagelin, Simon, ZAR. Hoping this opens up space for Sheahan and a Kunitz comeback!

Holy sh!t they rid of Hunwick... But only a pick for both??... I dunno about that and for the love of F please no Jack Johnson taking up all that space... I could live with 2 mill or under.. Still dont want him at all though.

For a 4th round pick that could become a 3rd pick in 2019

Wow, really would've preferred getting something of use for Sheary and just burying Hunwick in the AHL for a $1 million hit...if this signals Johnson coming this team is losing it's way.

This was similar to the caps deal to the avs....one player has decent value (grab and sheary) and one player is a waste of space cap suck (orpik and hunwick) so it lessens the value of the decent player to take the crappy player...thus only a 4th/maybe 3rd.

I'm gonna hate JJ in a Pens Uniform regardless of the $'s

After this trade and re-signing Sheahan and Oleksiak the Pens should still have roughly $4M available to spend.

They should have more than that.

Its not sexy, but quite frankly, $5 mil in cap space is absurdly valuable. Sheary was so far down the depth chart that I don't mind selling kinda low on him to clear this kind of cap. We will definitely need to make kind of a splash at LW in UFA now though, so the Sheahan and Oleksiak contracts will dictate how this offseason will go.

The only way I'm cool with JJ is if its a one year deal at ~1 mil which will never happen.

Yeah. The 2 of them should be at most 4.5M, so the Pens will have about 6M to sign a bottom 6 forward and another defenseman.

IDK what we'd have to trade for those players. Feels like Sprong and next year's 1st are our only expendable assets of value and I really, really don't want to unload Sprong before he gets his shot.

2 years at 750k of Sprong is a helluva bargaining chip to other GMs. Not saying Im for it, but its something nice to dangle.

ultimately trading sheary and hunwick for a conditional pick and 1 of nash/jvr??? seems like a solid win.

Much better than JJ

A guy who no one is talking about I wouldn't mind the Pens looking into is Thomas Hickey. He wasn't bad on that dumpster fire of a Islanders team.

I think the gamble on that upside is more valuable to the Pens than trading him and other top assets for someone like Skinner who is $5M and only signed for one year.
