Comeau and Reider would be a couple of targets for LW.
- madmike71

I agree. I wouldn't give term for Comeau though. I'd def be open to a 2-3 year deal with Rieder.

He shouldn't. Thats when you get into trouble, giving depth players NTC's. Those need to be reserved for the "core".

Hasn't been reported anywhere. If he does get one it won't kick in until next season. To my knowledge you can't have a NTC in RFA years. Which is why JT Millers deal he signed today doesn't have a NTC until next season. Same reason Nyquists current deal had a NTC kick in 2 years after the contract started.

Minutes before the deadline, Rutherford said, the Penguins offered a two-year contract, but it was rejected.

“He’s been a good player for us,” Rutherford said. “By qualifying him, we probably would’ve gone to arbitration. With us being as tight to the cap as we are, we couldn’t risk that. Just prior to sending the qualifying offers in, we made one last call to his agent. Offered a two-year deal. It got rejected. That’s where it is.”

Well well well....looks like Kühnhackl didn't want $0.75M for 2 years from the Pens. Good luck then.

Btw. I'm not against Jack Johnson on the cheap. He'll rebound well playing for us.

Is Brian Rust a clone of Pascal Dupuis?

Scores some, but not a ton, Speed game 5v5 scoring, almost no PP time, great on the forcheck and penalty kill?

Someone post some of those fancy comparison charts

According to a report, McKenzie said that JJ will get around $6mil per. Give or take a million. No thank you.

Jack Johnson will be Matt Hunwick 2.0. Only he will cost more money.

Show me where I said I wanted him for $6M lol what a joke. I said on the cheap and by that I mean $2-2.5M for a couple years max.

I have a feeling they are different and JJ would do better than Hunwick since he brings at least a physical game. He's no wimp.

He was asking for 6 million. He was a healthy scratch and had a terrible year under performing on a 4 million contract. So I would he makes more than 3.5 million especially if he signs with us. I think he is more in the 2-3 million range. As one person already eluded to in this thread he really hasn't been to good in the NHL. He shows flashes with his athleticism, but he didn't put it all together and he is too old to really explode with his talent. He still could put together a solid couple of years with some coaching so lets hope for that.

Yea the only way that dude will make 6mil is if a floor team needs a cap hit. He won't be making anything near 6mil if a contender picks him up. I would personally pass on him. We already have to deal with Hunwick unless he's moved.

I'd rather almost any defenseman in the league over Jack Johnson. "Almost"....

Sounds like the same thing everyone said about Schultz before he turned his career around in Pittsburgh.

I just don't see where Johnson fits into the Pens roster and I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay him anything north of $3M. The only way he looks like an option is if the Pens are trading one of Dumo, Maata or Oleksiak. Not sure I see that happening. I definitely don't want to bring him in and have one of the LD's play on the right side.

I kind said something similar earlier, but that was more my hope if the Pens signed up so I didn't feel terrible about the signing.

What's the difference between JJ and Schultz?

-Schultz was 24 when the Pens traded for him.
-JJ is 31.

What's the old saying? "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." At 31 it's hard to imagine that some coach is going to finally help him find his game.

The only thing I'm unaware of is how he was deployed in CBJ the past two or three years. Was he a top four or 3rd pair? If he was sheltered and still put up those horrible stats then he's likely hopeless.

Regardless, if the Pens are going to make room for a $5/$6M contract and that's how JR chooses to spend that money then he's going to destroy his legacy with the Pens.

Nah, there was quite a few of us that liked the trade and thought he could work out with the Pens, with a change of scenery and that it was a low risk/high reward kinda deal.
