Yeah if you wanna stay a last place team for 3 more years fine, I'd rather that not be the case.

i wouldn't be against signing him.. but to consider him as part of the NHL squad should not be plan A. I would like to see more than 15 games collectively in our nhl goalie tandem
- IndianaSabresFan

I just don't see any enormous gain from signing a vet. I'm of the mind that competition is more important than a vet goalie's tutelage.

Bernier may win a couple more games, but I'd rather take the flyer on someone who could possibly develop into something more. Do you think Ullmark will ever be a starting, playoff caliber goalie? A lot are excited, simply put, I am not.

Try to sell that to the season ticket holders, I dare you.

They would eat you up and spit you out.

The season ticket list is about to come crumbling down. IF the Sabres come out bad again next year. The Dahlin factor will only last so long.

If people think we’re going to be this power house team this year
Good luck we will be in the top 5 might not be the worse but still in the lottery

Also, it was going to crumble this year, but Pegula somewhat saved it with the phony letter and no price increase and the added benefits.

Sure, again, you try selling them we are still building for the future (Not next year) and you don't plan on being competitive next year.

Trading ROR for futures (2-4 years away) says to a lot of the fanbase that we are basically tanking next year.

Too soon to say, and too many variables between now and the season. I still think

Eichel
Mitts
ROR
Erod

Down the middle, if they can swing some decent wingers, should be at least top-15, if not top-10 center depth in the league. How good is Ullmark? Can Bogo/McCabe stay healthy, yada yada yada.

Way too soon to write them off as a lottery team imo

He did, and all that comes undone to a lot of people if you trade your best trade asset for players that are 2-4 years away.

This is year 4 or 5 now of the rebuild ( i forget ), admitting it's going to take 2-3 more years is a tough sell. Hell to some its non-negotiable. They need to be good next year.

We've been "building for the future" since 2012.

I am one of them, and so are most of my friends. We actually watch the Sabres, so yes we understand we are probably 2 years off from playoffs still. Just hoping for improvement this year. If we don't get that... we really need to start questioning the Pegulas and their decisions.

ROR must bring back a young NHL winger. If you're going to trade him, get that and whatever else you can.

Pretty easy sell:

Hey, see what Tim Murray tried to do? See how the team is now?

Yea, we are trying not to do that again.

Yup that was the first time. Then Murray set us back and it started all over with Botts coming in. People think we are going to be good this year? That really blows my mind.

Trading ROR for nothing but futures means you are a lottery team again next year.

The fanbase wont take that.

Year 6 or 7. But it was done incorrectly the first time. Now it is being done the correct way... which is build for the future. We are not a piece or two away. We need to build long term with the core players we have.

I'm not suggesting we'll be "good". But hell being mediocre is an upgrade at this point. There has to be some kind of suggestion that this team is actually going somewhere.

THIS. 100% THIS. Actually fans of hockey understand this and understand the set backs TM had with trying to rush the rebuild. You lose a casual fan here and there, who cares? Soon as we start winning those are the first fans being "die hards" and decked out in gear head to toe.

We're adding two new high-end talents in Mitts and Dahlin, plus whatever in FA, and a new goalie. There are a ton of question marks, yes, but I expect them to be more competitive. A .915 season from Ullmark, Mitts and Dahlin both as ROTY candidates, and an upgrade in production from an Erod/Fa winger, and a 85-90 point season from Jack should have us at least as bubble team.

That's a lot of ifs
