It would have yes, but again that is an all futures package and admits to the fan base we don't plan on being good next year, which they just cannot do. The fan base won't take another season like last year.
- ImThatGuy

ROR is not a tipping point player, all that trade would've admitted is, this makes the organization stronger.

Stronger down the road, again, not now.

Many see ROR as a tipping point player.

That would have sent this fan base into oblivion.

I think you all are crazy with the amount of talent that was available at 10 and 11 was worth more then ROR
- gerbe75pts

By the time those players are even relevant Eichel will be 24 and Risto will be 26. Meanwhile this will be the 4th or 5th time since 2012 we've basically admitted we don't expect to be any good for a few more years and are waiting for talent to develop. The fanbase will want the front office hanged and Botterill/Housley will most certainly be out of a job.

trading away one of the players who scored on a team who didnt score for futures is a tipping point on being good next season 100%

He scores a lot when Eichel is on the ice with him, which everyone does on the PP.

Which is and never will be our problem.

True or not he still scored 60 points.

You think the average fan cares or not who was on the ice with him? I don't think they would.

It would have been a bad look to get only futures in return.

They don’t, which is why he’s falsely labeled “good” offensively.

He is at best an average offensive player.

This I disagree with a bit. he has constantly put up 55-65 points a year for his career. I would put him at just above average.

Because he plays a bazillion minutes.

The best thing for Ryan O’Reilly’s career to date, has been the fact that he’s played on awful teams

I get that, I just wouldn't call him average at best.

The fact that he is always on awful teams speaks volumes about his "Leadership" skills.

the fact that he is having the same problems here as Colorado does too.

It's not one dimensional, moving ROR for futures opens you up to grab a ufa, maybe 2 that fit the mold of the direction this organization is heading.

He's a talented player, but no he won't change this or any new team he goes to significantly enough to tip us or them into contention

I'm the wrong guy to ask. My research is read who is supposed to be the top prospects and see how many goals they scored on HockeyDB. He scored 22 goals in 26 games.

We get that yes. Many of this fan base see ROR as a core player that put up 60+ points.

Trading ROR to overpay a UFA or two is a bad move, to me.

The fact still remains trading him for futures weakens this team next year.

That said I'm all for trading ROR. Im not his biggest fan. I would like players that can come in and contribute next year.

IE
Fabbri + Berglund + A prospect.

That's an awful trade. Be glad it didn't happen.

Are you kidding me? With the 10th/11th pick we could have had Wahlstrom and with one of the seconds we could have had someone like Wilde.

Would you rather keep him, or trade him for 2019 picks?

I really, really hope they keep him if the offers are 2019 picks

Overall, no. He’s an above average player.

Offensively- Average
Defensively- very good

Out of 129 forwards who played at least 1000 5 on 5 minutes, he was 123rd in goals per 60. 93rd in assists per 60.
127th in overall points per 60.
71st in shots per 60.

Of guys who play heavy minutes. He excels nowhere on offense

The only people that want to over pay ufa's are Murray and his cult followers on here.

We werent getting Wahlstrom.

""The Habs, who selected Finnish pivot Jesperi Kotkaniemi with the No. 3 pick, had a deal in place with the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres to send captain Max Pacioretty to Long Island for a first-round pick, then flip it to the Sabres in exchange for Ryan O'Reilly, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels""

Islanders nixed it when Wahlstrom and Dobson fell.

Trust me I bang this drum a lot.
Without ROR on this team though and not bringing in anyone with immediate help, would weaken this team next year. That's all I am getting at.

Thats why I keep repeating.
Fabbri + Berlund + a prospect or pick.

Berglund could help eat minutes and Fabbri is a dynamic winger.
