Not sure that's a great comparable. Barkov was ranked the best European skater throughout most of the year, and I believe he was mocked no later than 4.

Kotkaniemi is a much more inferior prospect.

Not to mention how strong of a year it was for centers.

Montreal is clearly 100% reaching here. They passed up probably 5 or 6 guys to get him. Hell, it could all work out. Hope it doesn't.

I dont think that if we pay the bonus that it also means we have that cap hit (even if we trade him).

I think if he is traded before the start of the season, the other team gets the full $7.5 cap hit. If after season starts, it is split of course depending on games played.
