You must have become privy to some very interesting plans, your thoughts have changed quite a bit since before the draft.

No, this has to do with Panarin, I was never on the move Reinhart express, I like him. Do you have me confused with another poster here ?

No I have common sense. If he's as advertised (meaning the McJesus of the blue line) what offer do you think he signs that Buffalo doesn't immediately match? Seriously, I'd like to know. Because if someone offer sheets him at 13M x 7yrs, and again saying he's as advertised, we match instantly.

You take that back !! You just jinxed our franchise
- gerbe75pts

I will not live in fantasyland.

Eichel, Okposo, Mitts, Reino, Risto, Guhle, What happens with RoR's cap hit, and Dahlin will all be big contracts on the books in the next few years. Factor in other players stepping up, and that we have a lot of decent prospects coming along and will be right up against the cap soon enough. You better believe teams will be looking to poach us in 2-3 years. Now is not the time to make enemies with GMs around the league by sending out offer sheets.

Right, we match instantly, but at the cost of sending other players packing. Maybe some team will try to offer sheet Mitts or Dahlin no matter what, but we shouldn't go giving them ammo against us to do so. Right now there's a league understanding among GMs not to go around throwing out offer sheets, lets not be the team to break that truce.

Patches is looking for 8M because he was getting underpaid for so long in MTL. It's not gonna happen though. No one will sign him for that length and amount.

I get it, but he'll come down in his ask.. he has to. 8x8 is just absurd.

- BareMetal

He's in a toxic situation and now that this information is public, it will be an open sore in MTL until he's traded akin to the Hoffman scenario.

His ask should be 8x8 with MTL or sign and trade, or 8x7 on his new team. But teams are trending away more and more from dishing max contracts if you're not a franchise cornerstone or if you're over 28 (arbitrary assumption). I feel bad for him for not getting the money he deserved the first time around, but he's out of his god damned mind if he thinks he's getting a max 8M deal. 8x4, 7x5, sure. Sabres specifically should be very careful (I'm sure they're smart enough TO be careful) dishing out this kind of money for a guy of his age.

I didn't see Colorado retaliate against Calgary. I didn't see us go after Edmonton. Show me the evidence where GM's have offer sheeted to "get back" at another GM/franchise? What has it happened like once?

I don't know if you know this, but Reinhart was riding the white stallion on a beach in Maui until New Years Day, because he just realized his ELC was about to expire and he wanted more monayz so he tried harder

I'm also not saying go offer sheet anyone in particular, but I don't think that we should discount it if it can make our team better. You still have to give up picks to the team, so it's not like you're getting them for free.

If he's as advertised, we will do the same with him as we did with Eichel. He will never be offer sheeted because no one will come within a year's time of having that opportunity.

LeBrun says he thinks there’s 3-4 teams that are waiting until after July 1 to make a push for O’Reilly. Sabres are warning teams the price will go up after that point.

Darren Dreger says Jason Botterill wants a top prospect, 1st round pick, and a 2nd round pick for O’Reilly and that price could go up after July 1.

Says if Montréal ends up the trade partner it would likely happen before July 1 as they don’t mind paying the 7.5M bonus.

I said if we do it to other teams, it makes it more acceptable for other teams to do it to us. Maybe it happens anyway, if Dahlin makes it to RFA many teams will consider it, but let's not give any team an excuse to say, "Well, Buffalo offer sheeted this player and that player, so we're justified in offer sheeting Dahlin away from them, or just (frank)ing up their cap." It's a bad idea.
