I agree it is not a thick FA class but this might be the new norm. I do think there are plenty of options for Hextall to make the Flyers better this season with FA's or trades, he need to do it and I actually think he will.
just seeing Laughton and Vecchione listed really is a good reminder of how much depth the Flyers have. They just have important positional needs, 3c, goalie and a D. Some of that could be filled in-house, Laughton, Vecchione or Sanheim could have huge years but they still need to fill 1-2 holes from outside - wcorvette
Not a great UFA class and I do believe that Hexy would pursue UFA's as long as it makes sense from a cap and organizational perspective. We have learned that he is not going to make a move to simply sign a "big name" UFA. He really hasn't had a ton of flexibility until now. We have cap space and we are in a "bridge" period as we are waiting for some of our kids to mature. I think the safe move is short term, cap friendly deals for RD, 3C, and a possible winger. If an upgrade in goal makes sense, he makes the move (trade or signing). I'm actually excited to see what he can swing. |

I've seen this dude pop up a lot on my twitter feed being RT by people. I also saw he thanked incarcerated bob for following him so I assume he's a nobody who just tweets like he's an insider?
Edit: If I'm way off base, please correct me. But seeing him thank incarcerated bob leads me to assume he's full of it. - five4fighting10

So he still doesnt need to add another 8-10 then as you said in your previous post to be clear. - MJL
Yes I said he needed to add an extra 8-10, what I didn't say is that if he didn't, he couldn't be in the NHL. I am pretty sure the Flyers would like him to add weight (if possible). are you that bored you are looking for things to say "I got ya on"? |

yeah me too, he is positioned well to do something to upgrade. I am also looking forward to a new kid surprising us. |

I give Hextall a B+ on the draft. When it comes to Joel Farabee, I think he filled a need, more then best player available, which is great! As far as Jay O'Brien goes, let me know when you guys figure out anything about him.
Now, as far as the rest of the offseason goes. Don't do anything. I don't like Hextall's track record in terms of UFA. I don't see him bringing in an impact player (which is fine). Just let the UFAs walk and call it a summer. |

from what is out there O'Brien has the tools, i have to trust Hex on this one, this could be his Frost pick for 2018 and if it is the draft will be an A. Currently it is a B.
Provy, TK, Patrick, Frost, Farabee and O'Brien, if they all hit WOW |

So what is the need based on then, so he can fit into his clothes better?
Here is the deal. He's going to weigh what he weighs. There are plenty of quality NHL players who play at around 180. Would it be nice to add more weight, of course but he doesn't NEED to add 8-10 more lbs. That's simply all it was about. Making that distinction. If you want to make it into more than that, have at it! |

I see Frost as a wing option as well. I know he was good on faceoffs last year in the OHL, but he may have trouble against stronger pros. - jmatchett383
I like him as a wing too.

You are making it into something, like you tend to do. No worries, you humor me.
The reality is my comment was my opinion, nowhere did it say he couldn't play at 180, you took that slant on it. Do you think the Flyers would like him to add weight? Do you think the Flyers are building his work out and diet to add weight? Do you think they Flyers believe if he adds 5-10 the right way, it will make him a better player?
You decided to talk about plenty of NHL players, I was just talking about Frost. When I said he needed to add weight, it wasn't meant in a do or die scenario which you twisted it to be.

Calgary never said Johnny Hockey needed to add weight. If Frost impresses at camp, then we will have a tough decision to make. It is nice that we have the option to send him back to junior to let him develop more. Patience. I have to keep telling myself that we are still a few seasons off. As these kids start to hit, we will all be in our glory. |

The person who is commenting on something other than the players need to add weight is the person making it into something more.
Of course it is your opinion, why is that in question? My comments were based on your opinion of he needed to add weight. My opinion is that it would be nice but he does not need to. The word need is pretty self explanatory.
The reference to other players is simply that many players play at that weight, and if you're a good player, you're a good player whether you weight 180 or 190. Adding weight will not necessarily make him a better player.

I expect the most usual free agency. We sign a depth player who likely sees time between the Phantoms and Flyers. Hextall is not changing his game plan. He doesn’t believe in free agency. - Buzzo
So the Flyers are going to be near the bottom of the league in total cap hit? That's a bold prediction. |

You can't put too much into Hextall's track record... The first two years, he was still dealing with Holmgrens contacts and wrestling with the cap. Only now is the cap starting to free up - but, he can't play with it too much because of the up and coming contracts from the stars he drafted. |

so true I listed all the 1st round picks from Provy till now, #1 D and almost a complete top 6 O.
Frost will have to really blow the doors off not to be sent back, going back will be good too, he will play for Canada |

I don't think it is worth ruling out Rubtsov from making the team this year. His defensive game is well developed and coach will probably consider him "reliable". We all know what happens with reliable players under Hak. |
