It's a good deal. Worst thing they could have done is give him the QO, have him accept, perform well down the stretch, and force the to pay him more.

In this case, worst thing that can happen is he regresses/becomes injury prone and they spend less than $1M on him for the next 3 years,

- jmatchett383

It's a great deal. If he comes back healthy and plays, it's an absolute steal paying him 700k the next three years and like you said if he comes back and gets hurt again, you're paying him next to nothing.

The 2nd they send to St Louis in this scenario is the one acquired from Edmonton in the Gudas deal. They would still have a 2nd in 2020 and they had one in 2018. It would only be one year without one which IMO is a fair price to both upgrade the D and in goal
- BiggE

You're right, it was the 3rd they didn't have this draft, my bad. I like Myers as a vet 2nd pair guy. Also, he probably wouldn't require much of a raise going forward.

Whatever happened to Stolarz? He didn't look awful in his games he got in with the Flyers, did injuries just destroy him or what?
- idiotsallofu

Injured almost all of last season.

I'd be shocked if you could get Myers for that price. I'd rather bury or just keep Neuvirth as the backup then to give up a 2nd round pick to make a minor upgrade for the short term. Keep in mind that I have little faith in Neuvirth.
- MJL

Allen and Elliott paired well as a tandem in St Louis so I see it as a bit more than a minor upgrade. At some point you will need to move a pick or 2 to upgrade the team. Going from Neuvirth to Allen could give you a better shot to make the playoffs and perhaps win a round.

Re Myers:
If Winnipeg wants to keep Trouba, he won’t come cheap. They will need to move salary and teams know it. I don’t think anyone is parting with a 1st for Tyler Myers with one year left on his deal at 5.5 million. He’s basically a one year rental and he’s not a top pair guy. However he’s better than Gudas and should help the PK.

Depending on the cost, I'm not opposed to it...which means I'm probably opposed to it.

Unless he’s willing to sign a deal for no more than 3 years (which is extremely unlikely) no thanks.

Also keep in mind that the rumor came from Ek, so it’s about as valid as the stories you hear about Elvis Presley still being alive and working at a Winn-Dixie in Tupelo, MS

It was reported 10 teams have significant interest in JVR. We could be one of them but I wouldn’t pencil us in as a favorite despite our previous ties.

I'd be fine with it...but your looking at 7 years and 45 mil to do it. He scores 30 goals a year....it's a new NHL where you really need "3" good lines.

So Morin gets a new contract with a handful of NHL games under his belt, not to mention missing majority of this season. Must be a performance based deal.
- PLindbergh31

can we get a rolling eyes emoji on here? the deal is for 700K a year. They obviously are basing the deal on the 2 healthy seasons where he showed progress over the one injury plagued season where he really should have made the team. if he plays the way they expect 700K for the next 3 seasons is a steal. if not then he is simply sent to the Phantoms with no cap ramifications and is a highly paid AHLer. Do you just look for things to complain about or most likely look to push buttons for a reaction like this?

$700K is the league minimum in 19-20 and 20-21.

Morin wasn't eligible for a performance based contract.

What is a Performance Bonus?
A Performance Bonus can be given to a player in addition to their salary. Performance bonuses are only paid to the player if they meet the requirements as defined by the bonus. Performance bonuses count against the salary cap; however, a team can exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses by the maximum performance bonus cushion amount of 7.5 percent of the upper limit.

Not all players are eligible for Performance Bonuses, and to receive a bonus within their contract, a player must meet one of the following criteria:

1. The player is on an entry-level contract.
2. The player has signed a one-year contract and is over 35 years old.
3. The player has signed a one-year contract after returning from a long-term injury (has played 400 or more games, and spent 100 or more days on the Injured Reserve in the last year of their most recent contract).

I wish he was in on Tavares, but I understand why he doesn't want to pay him $12m a year.

“It’s just competition. No one is going to go in there and had you a job, so you have to earn it,” Stolarz said Monday. “I think the thing for me is to prove I’m healthy. I don’t think I’ve skated since the end of January. I had the one flare up before one of my games and it had nothing to do with my knee injury. It was a separate injury. I think the biggest thing is proving I’m healthy and going out there and working to prove I’m still a high-caliber goalie.”

Stolarz went through a rigorous workout Monday at the Flyers Skate Zone and even took shots from defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. He doesn’t see the knee injury derailing his offseason following last summer’s surgery to repair the meniscus tear that required months of rehab.

Now, the 2012 second-round pick, who was actually selected higher than Hart was, can prove why he was such a valued commodity coming out of the draft six years ago.

“I definitely think I’m still an NHL-caliber goalie,” Stolarz said. “I think with my size and quickness, it’s two attributes that you don’t see too often — guys like Pekka Rinne and Ben Bishop. I think the biggest thing with me is, just proving I can stay healthy.

“Taking that year off at first took a toll on me mentally and it hit me hard, but as the year went on, I was able to watch some Flyers games and watch some goalies and take some things from other goalies and incorporate them into my game.”

agreed, Myers should be the target, he could be priced right.

On another note you have posted numerous, well thought out posts. In fact they might be to well thought out. It is possible you need Hockey Buzz Rehab. I think we should ask Bill if he provides any type of insurance to the posters.

Stolarz, Flyers missed him last season, he has the size and physical tools to do well and showed that in his brief NHL exposure. I am glad they didn't give up on him.

I bet they could get Duclair on the cheap. How many teams will this be in soon to be 6 seasons? 4?

He is a talented kid but by many accounts he is lazy and disinterested.

The smoke is definitely thick on this dude.

I mean, it's quite possible he ends up on waivers in October. But it would be crazy not to extend him a QO when the price is only $761,250.
