After their re-signing yesterday of John Carlson for 16 Pro roster players signed, the Caps have around $13.2 to 13.3M worth of cap space to fill in that roster. Among the 8 total Pro roster potential UFA's and RFA's combined, their four key ones are Wilson, Smith-Pelly, Kempny, and Beagle.

There's a lot of work to be done. New regime is interested in signing de Haan, too...who has something like 10 teams after him. Nobody knows what Lou is gonna do, so your guess is as good as mine.

edit: I do think Anderson is a target to play goal and I have to think they'd send Greiss the other way to offset the salary to nearly a wash. I wonder if they don't try to find somewhere to dump Clutterbuck, too. Or if they try and package Greiss/Clutterbuck together and cough up a valuable asset (I'm thinking Kieffer Bellows, who's expendable with the addition of Wahlstrom) and send them to OTT for Anderson.

It might be, but what I'm thinking isn't just Bellows-for-Anderson. Sending Greiss and Clutterbuck with him would be clearing nearly $6M in cap space also. Teams aren't going to take on that kind of dead-weight for a 3rd round pick.

Montreal will win the lottery, Ottawa will get the 2nd pick, Arizona the 3rd, and they will all pass on Hughes and you guys will get him with the 4th pick

I think he's got a ways to go with his skating before he's gonna be any sort of impact player at the NHL level. But yeah, he's a damn good prospect for sure.
