True that.... just cannot pay him too much for too long... better to take a step back this year and not be handcuffed financially in 2-3 years |

Risto makes no sense for the leafs. Especially for Nylander - ClarksonDavid
He's got the tools, just needs the focus. Get him to a contender and put him with some talent and he'll blossom. A right shot with a bit of an edge. Nylander gets allot of favourable press for a 20 goal scorer that plays on the wing with Austin Matthews. He's soft and when Matthews isn't with him, the offense dries up. It's easier to get wingers then defensemen or centres. Can't get better without bold moves. It'll just be the same team as last year, if we don't make a master stroke of a move.

Salary cap should be based on income after taxes. What a nightmare trades would become - jribout
Owners should each give the league $79.5 million at the start of the year, league pays the players out of one central state players pay income tax based on that state levels the playing field, owners settle up their account at the end of the year getting money back or paying for overages (ltir) |

Best to forget about Tavares. Too expensive with the young guns needing to get paid.
Might look good for 3 or 4 years, but by year 4 or 5, it'll be a boat anchor of a contract. Having Matthews at 1 and Kadri at 2 is a decent top 2 lines. If Bozak could sign for 3 years at $10 million total, it's a gain. Lots of 4th line veterans out there, so it'll shore up the centre spot. Maybe some overtures toward Buffalo could put the Nylander brothers together. Rasmus Ristolainen should be the target. If you have to throw in a plug like Connor Carrack to get it done, then do so. - PrinceLH
With the way the cap is expected to go up a Tavares deal is never going to look bad.
Unless Bozak is willing to sign a one year deal for fourth line money it's better for both parties for him to sign somewhere else.
Let's not give Buffalo anything, OK? Nylander is going to be a star in the league, I'd rather have him on our roster. |

Hate to break it to you, but it doesn't work like that. Taxes are based on residency, not the address from which you get paid. PLUS, even if it did work that way, the NHL is based in New York, which has very high taxes so this would be very bad for the players. |

Good chance Nylander plays center in Bozak's sheltered secondary offensive role. There have been articles that have broke down his play at center and while he's not ready for bigger matchups he plays strongly against weaker competition.

Look I will admit that even as a fan of Bozie I get what you're saying.
But I looked around both in house and around the league and am having a hard time finding a better option. - Byfuglien Ate Me

So first line money for 3rd line minutes. Defense needs fixing. |

Bozak was making 4.25 in the same role. A little more to have three lines with dynamic offensive talent.
A 22 year old with essentially two full NHL seasons matches or outscored Ryan O'Rielly, Logan Couture, Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, Mike Hoffman, Ryan Johansen, Tyler Johnson, Paul Stastny etc etc.
I'd be pretty comfortable with that for sure.

That’s just because he plays with Matthews.
(even though he only played half the season with Matthews the first year, and Matthews missed 20 games last year...) |

Nylander at C, is not the worst idea. Only issue with it, is that it leaves Matthews to play with Hyman and Brown.

Or Kapanen. Or Marner. Or Johnsson plays LW and Hyman plays RW. Or Jagr. |

and it's not like other players don't get to play with good players. Would Nylander post 60+ next year at 3C, I doubt it. Still has dynamic offensive talent and can begin to grow and develop into the role.

On paper I like Hyman-Matthews-Kapanen.
Not opposed to caving and giving Matthews Marner which would be great to watch. Hurts the overall depth but I think Marleau-Kadri-Kapanen could be a fun defensive line. Talk about speed on those wings.

It's not that I don't dislike it because I really like the third line. I wasn't a big fan of Brown on the Kadri line. He's a good jobber but they really didn't seem to have an offensive potency together. |
