Can it be a tie?

I think it's a tie. I like the trade for both teams. Excited I get to see Hamilton and Ferland play more than twice a year now.

I'll be brief now and and expand on many points later because I'm busy at the moment.

Dougie Hamilton openly said he DIDNT CARE whether the team won or lost, he was getting paid either way!!!! Red flag #1

He also started doing stupid things to piss management, trainers and teammates off after they put his brother on waivers because he was pouting about it.

Ffs hot stove, use your heads!!! Nobody wants a player with a lack of character like that in your locker room.

Please pull your collective heads out of your asses. Thx.

Who would be your FA target this off-season and why?
- Don-key

If know he's left handed and he's a left wing, but James van Riemsdyk would be a very nice addition the Flames should try to sign. I'll use James Neal as a comparable because he too is an UFA and could be a Flames target as he plays both wings.

Reasons:
#1. Goals
- For the last four seasons, he's averaged 30 g and 30a
#2. Age
-James Neal would be nice, but he's going to want 5-7 years and turns 31 in September. JVR just turned 29 in May. If it takes signing him to a 6th year, he'll only be 35 at the end of the last season on the deal.
#3. Money
- Neal will probably settle around $7.25AAV , but JVR will have to settle a little lower around $6M AAV.
#4. Personal selfishness
- I wished JVR was a Flame since he was in Philly.

Why do you think JVR will have to settle for less? His numbers are in line with James Neal and he's almost two years younger. I'd say that he'd probably command the same, if not a little more. Their fancy stats are pretty much even, too. JVR's offensive zone starts are about 70-30 and Neal's are about 60-40. It seems they're almost the exact same player.

I'd love JVR but I'd be fine with James Neal, too.

I guess it's more of a feeling, I just think that's how it will play out. I'm not against Neal, just don't want to hate the last 2 years of his deal of we sign him.

In paper it seems like a wash. Teams usually only move top pairing D if they get a offer they cant refuse (or are rebuilding/having cap issues/are the Montreal canadians), but this trade seems kind of fair for both sides. That makes me believe that there is some real issues with Hamilton. I should be worried about that if im the new owner of the Canes.

So for those reasons, if i had to pick a winner, it would be Flames. Gudos to them for handling it nice instead of creating a big mess about it.

Except they gave up the best player in the deal. And an extra. For a high upside guy that may reach the same group of guys that was dealt, a guy who was likely a wash for the 2nd part, and a high upside prospect.

Hammy and Ferland for Hanifin and Lindholm, close to even, still a little in Carolina's favor... add in Fox. And it's in a clear win. But Flames fans keep making excuses. Hope Dougie wins a Norris to heat the hatred.

Ok....first off Dougie is an incredible defenceman and it stings like hell to lose a player like him, he will win the Norris one day that’s a fact. It’s hilarious because before the trade everyone loved Hamilton now EVERYONE is citing off ice issues but not one person can support that with proof. He is by far the best player in this trade. Carolina fans be excited you got your self one hell of a young defender. 2nd as much as Ferland was loved here he was playing WAY above his head. His shooting % is unsustainable he was streaky at best and his big hits often left him out of position. the difference between him and Lindholm is drastic. Lindholm is by far the better player and now with quality line mates you will see what that equates to. Hanifin is no slouch either. Yes he is not where people were thought he would by yet but he kid is 21 years old! His output to Dougie at the same age is nearly identically. Now I don’t think he is going to match dougies offensive output but his defensive game is a lot stronger than dougies is especially when Dougie was a 21 year old player. Flames landed 2 recent 5th overall young (23 & 21) players for an elite defenceman and a guy who in reality should be a 2nd / 3rd line guy. There in the fox sweetener. Yes Fox has he potential to be a great player but the reality is to get he deal done we had to give up something else of value as without fox in the deal the flames would have DESTROYED Carolina in the trade. Fox is a smart add because of the possiblity of not signing with us. If Treliving added a guy like Andersson or kylington in the trade and then fox didn’t sign with us we would be down 2 players. As much as I loved Hamilton this was a good hockey trade that makes the flames better now (top line RW and top 4 def both cost controlled). This boosts Carolina’s offence as well and helps them be a better team now. Time will tell what fox ends up being but this is a cost flames fans should enjoy.

I am with Tanner.

After watching DH in Cowtown for a few years, as a fan, I am eagerly willing to move on to the next chapter. Dougie played well offensively, but was prone to dumb penalties, and wasn't a physical presence either.

On a side note, Carolina can enjoy having a player who has alienated not one, but two dressing rooms in his short career

You do realize that Adam Fox was not going to sign with Calgary, and Ferland had a really good but very inconsistent year last year playing with some stud linemates. Lindholm is a very significant upgrade in our top 6. Hanifin will be intersting to see how he does his first year as a flame, hes got the compete and speed and already has a solid all around game. I am expecting a pretty solid year.

Dougie Hamilton has 42 goals, 137 points the past 3 seasons.

Elias Lindholm has 38 goals, 128 points the past 3 seasons.

He's not a scrub, and neither is Hanifin, but it's not close.

Friedman said today that after making ohone calls he confirmed that the trade was, not quite requested, but mutually agreed upon. Hamilton was unhappy that they wanted to take him off the top pair and make him play his off side with Hamonic next season.

You also realize Ferland had a grand total of 2 goals in the last 35 games. Had we kept Fox until next spring to find out then that he was not going to sign, what value did walk away from, a 2nd & 3rd rounder? Once they decide to go that route any other team acquiring him has the same risk. Teams wont pay too much at that point. Doesnt matter how good of a prospect he is, he wont be playing for the Flames. Also, majority of us had no idea how serious the closed door locker room issues actually were. Excuses, hardly, move along troll, hope Nurse punches out Drysaddle again next year.

I think they would have played Brodie on his left side before doing that. Didnt hear anything like that in the months leading up to this nor after the trade. Wonder who he confirmed that with. Whatever, its done.
