IMO Still need another RW that can score. Any chance if we overpay Neal he might sign for less term?

Frolik had 25 points last year. Not good enough for 2nd line duties. He is essentially a shutdown guy now. Lindholm can do the same but score goals. Time to move on from Frolik.

A 3rd line Bennett, Janko, and either Foo or Mange. Give them some easy zone starts and see what they can do. This line should bring speed and energy.

Read somewhere that it makes more sense to buy out Brouwer next year. Keep him around for the PK and the odd fight........and important faceoffs.

Bringing in Neal might be a good move just to have a Vet with some experience in playoffs on the forward core, we will have to overpay but it fills a huge need.

I think this lineup brings a pretty balanced attack. Gives Bennett another winger that can actually skate as well.

With Stone they could probably retain 1-1.5 mil and a trade would be much easier.

This is an odd trade that could end up lopsided for either team but originally I think the flames should have gotten more but if fox wasn’t signing and Hamilton was an issue than you gotta get something of value back and they did

I like the versatility of EL as he can play a few roles of need be

If Brodie and gio can regain their chemistry then we will be fine ....if not we will be in tough

I love how after players are traded away every fan base seems to pour the hate on for the players leaving to try to justify they won the deal ...

Hamilton’s game is rounding out nicely and if he can figure out his defensive side a bit better he will be a true number 1 guy ...but we are seeing a trend where guys who play with gio look really good and not so good without ...we will see

Ferland is more skilled than fans outside of cgy realize ...yes he had the benefit of playing with top line but he has a great shot and can make plays too ...he will be missed

Fox is a very good prospect but I have no time for American college players who pull the jimmy Vessey ...you were lucky enough to be drafted so go there and get paid to play hockey ...that rule needs to be change like years ago

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Brouwer
Mangiapane-Shore-Foo
Subs: Dube,Gawdin,Phillips,Prybil,Hrivik

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson
Subs:Valimaki,Kylington,Wotherspoon

At this point this is what we are working with to start the season fellas. Not to shabby if the season started now. Probably still looking for a top six winger still however.

Paul Stastny will be a UFA that Winnipeg simply cannot afford at all. You could probably get him in the 5 mil range if you wanted to push Backlund down to 3rd line centre. Probably not something I would do though considering Tkachuk's upcoming contract.

- Flamin_Irishmin

Hey Bro! I think Bennett needs to be in the top 6 & I think you need to put Tkachuk off of the checking line. This kid has potential to be a 70 point player,

I would do:

Gaudreau/Monahan/Lindholm (confirmed yesterday by Peters)
Tkachuk/Janko or Backlund/Bennett
Magpie/Backlund or Janko/Frolik
Lazar/Shore/Brouwer/anyone else

Fox pisses me off & Im with you, what huge risk taking these college kids in the first round. At least with Fox, it was a 3rd round pick. But this is crap & other GM's know how vulnerable a GM is when they know a player doesnt want to sign & just low balls them. I hope Fox career goes the same way Erickson's did after he screwed us, karma baby.
We didnt get the value for Dougie that we should of & if getting traded a 2nd time in his short career wakes him up & smartens him up, Carolina has a good 3 year window with a good top pairing D. I dont blame our GM, he had to do something just like Dorion had to get Hoffman out of that locker room. Curious to see how Ferland does in the Eastern conference. He certainly will be hugely motivated in playing for a new contract, so I actually expect him to give Carolina a great season. I think Carolina makes the playoffs next year & I bet the pitchforks & torches will be coming for Tre in this forum

Karma is a female dog. But I have a sneaking suspicion that B Tkachuk will pull the ame move to come play with his brother!

Andrew Mangepane. It was a hockey trade. Both teams got what they needed.

They actually traded Elias Lindholm to Anaheim for Hampus to put him on the 2nd line RW.

Bold strategy.

From today's Calgary Sun:

.....Added GM Brad Treliving when asked about Lindholm on the top line, “I wouldn’t pencil anyone in as we’re still going to go out to get some help up front. We’re not done making our team better.”

Plain and simple fella's, this deal isn't bad for either team.

Treliving could have made the inside (whatever) with Hamilton public but didn't. He hinted at issues and now we can only speculate. It is what it is. You trade when the value of the player as it his peak. Thus Hamilton. He's a great player and will help the Canes D immensely.
He didn't want to give up Ferland but called it a business decision. Ferland will likely get paid and Calgary didn't want to risk losing him for nothing come next summer. I'm curious to see how he plays outside the Flames organization and what role he'll take in Carolina.
Fox, well, if the rumors are true and his agent told Tre he would never sign in Calgary, its a no-brainer. Karma's a female dog and maybe Fox will be another Tim Erixon...

The Flames get two young, talented players . No, Hanifin isn't on the same level but I think the hope is that Brodie can return to form with Gio and Hanifin will work well with Hamonic... and that offsets the loss of Dougie.
Lindholm is a better player than Ferland (although in different capacities) so its sort of a balance. And I agree with some of you guys, it would have been better with a conditional pick...

So moving on... who moves up into the 3rd pairing and who do you think Tre is going to go after (or what type of player). I do have to agree with the Ducks dude on the Hotstove post, Calgary is easier to play against. Do we add "toughness" or at least some edge?

If we want the Flames to play a little more edge, I suggest bringing in Theo Fleury and Grant Fuhr in as nutrition counsellors.
