Hudler brah.

Jori Hudler had more skill than Lindholm does.

Why is there all this hype around Ferland. They guy has One 40 point season under his belt at 26 years old playing with Monahan and Gaudreau. Lindholm put up more points in both his last 2 seasons at 23 years old. Hanifin is 4 years younger than Hamilton and was anchoring the Carolina Defense. Of course Hamilton is the better player but Hanifin is no scrub. He has the potential to be just as good. You just arent going to see it right away. Flames IMO are the better team from this deal. Carolina dug themselves a deeper hole to upgrade a position that didnt necessarily need to be upgraded.

Yeah in the end Ferland showed Flashes of brilliance but never really managed to find consistency. He has a great shot and can hit, but Lindholm is an upgrade. Nice to finally have a right shot on the PP.

If Calgary can land Neal to a reasonable deal I would be pretty happy going into next season.

This war amps dude is full of poop. Hanifin was not anchoring our blue line. Hanifin was 4th among D in ice time, didn't kill penalties, and played the 2nd PP unit.

Not to bust the bubble, but Ferland was not ...skilled. He was fortunate.

Put him on Stall's line he will hit 40P.

I'm all seriousness, if Lindholm doesnt hit 70 I'll be bummed.

This is the clincher to have a dominant front 9 with no 3D or goalie. Don't tske that away. Easy 9th overall.

For those talking personal crap aboit Ferland, they should be ashamed. Hr has struggled with demons and alcoholism, became sober, and is a top flight NHL player. I am sorry that example of a troubled but determined and effectice person will leave the locker room.

40 points is all we need. Hell, 30 would be fine.

Ferland isn't replacing Lindholm. Svechnikov is replacing lindholm.

Adam Fox has committed to coming to Canes development camp next week.

Canes staff think they can convince him to turn pro a year earlier.

Good on the kid for at least letting the Flames know he would not sign. Still hope he is a bust though!

Like Calgary, you are set for success...except goalie.

The front on both looks great.

why the (frank) do people always say this. draft position means jack poop this many years later, and im pretty certain in retrospect Carolina would have taken monahan over lindholm
- S Kaspar Rollins

And Calgary would have taken Draisaitl before Bennett but....

It's a good deal for both teams...

IMO still need a top RW to play with SM and JG. With Lindholm on the top line we are still a one line team.

JG-SM-??
Tchucky-Backs-Lind
Bennett-Janko-Foo
Mang-Shore-Frolik

Idk. What would it take to get Wilson out of Washington? Team needs more grit.

- DuranDuran

Move Bennett to the top line for 20 games or so.

Not the whole season. I owned Faulk in one of my fantasy hockey leagues. Hanifin spent a few months on the top PP and top pair. You can imagine my anger when Faulk was 2nd pair and 2nd PP. I definitely thought he spent more time on the top PP and top pair but I guess not. While what you say is true. Hanifin still managed to lead the D in scoring with less Ice time.

This is true. Noah definitely had the best offensive season for the Canes D, and he has a lot of upside, but he also played some very sheltered minutes. Bigger role they gave him the better he played though, so maybe it works out.

This is one of those trades where we won't really know who won it until we see the kind of player Hanifin turns into. Right now, Carolina got the best player in Hamilton, but if Hanifin reaches his full potential then I think this trade looks great for Calgary. I think it's hard to say right now who definitively won it.

the assumption here was that Fox wasn't signing because he had too many d-men blocking his path, which is no different in carolina

he already committed to play his final year in college, i imagine it gets resolved by the deadline.

the inclusion of Fox is the surest sign Brad got played. there was absolutely no reason to include him in this deal with what they were already giving up. none. they could have and should have flipped him seperate

- S Kaspar Rollins

Essentially, throwing Fox in the deal gives us as much of a chance at signing him as we had before. His plan is to hit the market as a free agent anyway.

D ALWAYS take longer to develop. Some never reach the level that Hanifin has already hit (see Ryan Murray). Also, he has progressed every year, so there's that.

At 21 years old, accepting the risk on his potential could pay off huge.

How often did we talk about the Flames taking dumb / bad penalties last year?
Some random numbers about penalties:

Carolina had an average of 6.2 pim/game - the lowest in the league.
Calgary had 11.1 pim/game - the 2nd highest in the league. Only Nashville was higher.
Last year, as a team Calgary drew 912 total pim while their opponents were assessed 916pim.
Carolina drew 512 total pim while their opponents drew 582 pim - a difference of almost a full minute power play time per game!
Calgary was the only team assessed more than 1 match penalty last season (2).
Only Florida had more major penalties than the Flames. (Flames had 32; Carolina had 8.)
It seems that improvement in this area could make a big difference.

Specifically, Hanifin has a total of 69pim in 3 years (21 last year.)
In 3 years with Calgary, Hamilton had 174pim (69 last year.) - some of them being really dumb.

Surprisingly, Ferland only had 24 pim last year which doesn't seem much for a player who is considered a tough-to-play-against, net-front presence. (By comparison, Tkachuk had 61pim.)

Saving the bad news for last: Hanifin was a minus 21 last year which would have tied him for worst on the Flames with Mikael Backlund.

Wish we could of at least got a conditional pick in the trade for the fox part but oh well. I think all players will do decent for each team . Maybe Peters has the magic beans that will get Bennett going...

Ferland has less penalties than Johnny Gaudreau. That says something.

Do You like the trade? I don't like it ..... but if Dougie was a problem ( not saying he was one ) then I like it because the return players are legit.
Londolm I always liked because I wanted him to fall to Calgary on his draft year. Worked out great for us with Monny. Hanifin is getting better.
Every year too. That is some good poop when your draft profile says top pairing dman. I have been reading some of Hanifins draft profiles and he was a potential #1 overall. Its blogs I read tho so maybe that was a reach.

everyone is alluding to problems with dougie off-ice but until i actually hear what they are i'm gonna assume it's the typical bullpoop dumb teams do to smear players out the door

so far the only thing is that he went to a museum once by himself while the rest of the team went to a restaurant. who gives a (frank)

- S Kaspar Rollins

I would advise listening to that interview. He basically says he had some sort of personal issue and that they would be keeping it internal beyond that.

Yup a conitional pick with the fox signing would have been smart. Round be damed. A pick is a pick
