Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes pull off blockbuster trade

Thrashers sucks for years because of trade like this Wodell was making.

IMO still need a top RW to play with SM and JG. With Lindholm on the top line we are still a one line team.

JG-SM-??
Tchucky-Backs-Lind
Bennett-Janko-Foo
Mang-Shore-Frolik

Idk. What would it take to get Wilson out of Washington? Team needs more grit.

This is my problem in having moved Ferland. We still have lineup holes and got, at the very least temporarily, worse defensively.

It was a miss in terms of a trade for the fact that we have up more than we should have and didn't really address an area of need. Flames will have to hit free agency hard this year, and basically had to regardless of this deal

Chances are we were not going to pay Ferland what he wanted to get. Guys like Maroon and Ferland can look good beside high end players but pretty suspect when playing on the 3rd line.

Hudler managed to do great things so maybe Lindholm can do even better.

Ferland had 2 goals in the last half of the year (read that somewhere...so it must be true) and I cannot remember seeing much grit so I wonder if his attitude was part of the problem.

Hoping Bennett can get a good strong look playing in the top 6. Its a contract year for him next year so its sink or swim.

Today on paper I see this team out of the playoffs without any major upgrades.

It was a contract year for Ferly, so I think that was a reason he wasn't playing as physically. He managed to be on a 50 point pace playing that way until he got injured..

Anyone listen to Tre's interview on the fan? He alluded to some serious problems with Dougie in the room. Wonder what they were. Props to BINGO for defending the trade's value.

You'll be disappointed if you want grit. Peters is all about transition and creating pinch points on the ice to create turnovers.

Cheers for that! Just listening.

Tre talking about the business side of Ferland. Pretty obvious they did not want to pay what he would ask.

See that Lindholm is a C. Did he play much in Carolina?

Edit, I only ask as maybe moving Janko up to the top line could be a cheap in house option.

On a pure asset management stand point, not a great trade. That being said, being a Richard in the room gets around and we are the second team to say this about Douglas so if team moral is up by sending him away then so be it. It's not like we got scrubs in return, solved one hole on the weakest ride side in the league... Now we just have to get ho sang or kapanen, sign Neal or Nash, buyout brouwer and chat about Reaves for some 4th line meat an tatoes, easy peasy....

Zero grit. Noah's not a physical guy by any stretch. He's more one of those guys who skated his way out of trouble.. his lack of physicality around his own net is part of why I'm okay with seeing him go. Lots of goals against simply due to not tying anyone up in his own end.

given how much people loved to complain about Hamilton, and JBo before him, not hitting i'm sure our fanbase is gonna love this

everyone is alluding to problems with dougie off-ice but until i actually hear what they are i'm gonna assume it's the typical bullpoop dumb teams do to smear players out the door

so far the only thing is that he went to a museum once by himself while the rest of the team went to a restaurant. who gives a (frank)

I like it.

Always loved Lindholm, think I will buy a new jersey.

Wish a 2nd or 3rd was included for Fox.

Ferland was the beneficiary of the top line. He will plummet.

Hamilton. Was amazing at spots, yet irresponsible too much.

Flames management signed their death certificates with this one. Just got weaker defensively and a lot less tougher
- scubasteve

Dougie was weak defensively, and toughness is not hard to acquire.

If anything, this is the anti BB trade, so I love it more.

Lindholm can play C in a pinch, and relatively well, but he's best used as a grinding RW to make quick plays off the boards and around the net.

He's got great hands and is real effective when he gets physically engaged, but if nobody plays the body on him he usually has a quiet night.

What is his durability? My most pressing question on this move.

Why is there all this hype around Ferland. They guy has One 40 point season under his belt at 26 years old playing with Monahan and Gaudreau. Lindholm put up more points in both his last 2 seasons at 23 years old. Hanifin is 4 years younger than Hamilton and was anchoring the Carolina Defense. Of course Hamilton is the better player but Hanifin is no scrub. He has the potential to be just as good. You just arent going to see it right away. Flames IMO are the better team from this deal. Carolina dug themselves a deeper hole to upgrade a position that didnt necessarily need to be upgraded.

Not really. He turns 24 in December, has almost 400 games under his belt and has put up about 40 points every year for 4 years, regardless of linemates.

I think he is what he is at this point. A solid 45 point wing.

No clue. The Canes haven’t had a #1C to test that with. I’ve always felt he could play on the RW on lines 1-4 and be effective and C 2-4 easily, how effective depends on his linemates he doesn’t appear to drive possession on his lines according to my unprofessional eye test. He’s a solid two-way forward with playmaking ability. And “one of the best releases in the league” according to Bill Peters although that shot of his was non-existent in Raleigh.

He’s a career 8.9% shooter, Peters is dumb. 8.9% is definitely below average for a top 6 forward

Adam Fox has committed to coming to Canes development camp next week.

Canes staff think they can convince him to turn pro a year earlier.
