Tre also spoke to Ferland being a UFA at the end of next year and wasn't sure what he would want for a contract value vs being able to control Lindholms contract here right away.

You’ve missed the point, we ditched a dressing room problem and added a right winger with scoring ability. We also got a really good young d man.

- shayne

Flames were a dominant team with Hamilton on the ice. Their problem was the 2nd and 3rd pairings not the 1st. Gio's also only grtting older. Not sure if he's capable of putting a lesser d partner on his back.

Also the Oilers should offer sheet Hanifin now.

I feel very good about all of that.

That you should.

Your assessment was right on.

It’s entertaining watching/reading most, (not all), of the Flames regulars back pedal now that the unthinkable has come to pass.

It’s not surprising; it’s just human nature.

Flames management signed their death certificates with this one. Just got weaker defensively and a lot less tougher

Wonder how much say Peters had in this. As Canes ex coach he must have had some insight on what it would take to sign both kids. Also knows their strengths and weaknesses better than anybody.

As a Ducks fan I can say thank god we don't have to play against Ferland anymore in Division.... That kid was always an absolute nightmare to play against. Can skate and hit and finish with a real edge. I think DH is going to tear the East up and Fox who knows.

I've been saying not to trade Dougie for a while now. That said, I don't hate this move. Getting Hanifin back is huge as we essentially traded a future #1 for a future #1 that's younger, and Lindholm is a better player than Ferland is. I'm also not upset about losing Fox as word is he had no intention of signing with us anyway.

It all comes down to whether or not Tre can get them locked up, and given his track record with our RFAs, I don't think that will be an issue.

Now, if things continue to be a disaster for us next season, I think Tre likely loses his job at the end of it, but as it stands now, I think this is a pretty even deal. I don't think I would hate it as a Carolina fan either. Guess we'll see what happens.

Also, I assume our blue line will look like this now (assuming no other moves):

Gio-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kulak-Anderrson
Stone

I think I'm alright with that.

Think it really revolves around the fact Hamilton was a problem in the room. Seems to be coming out there were issues and the team wanted to address that.

Factor in the new coach and that he knows and thinks he can get the most out of the two incoming players, I think the Flames are better.

Stats are one thing, Hamilton is better that way, but if he is causing problems for the team and in the room, then addition by subtraction.

Think overall it was a decent hockey trade for both teams really.

That much for Lindholm???? Woof.
- BINGO!

Dont know, you guys did a great job keeping his cost down. If he comes in & plays with Monahan & Gaudreau & pops 65+ points & 20+ goals, $5.1 is going to look pretty good in 2 years time. No woof.
I think Ferland & Hamilton should have been enough, not thrilled we had to throw in Fox. But keep in mind, we are definitely selling high on Ferland. He hasnt played in beast mode consistently since his concussion in the 2nd round against Anaheim & both his bridge contracts were workouts dude. He held out until well into training camp both times wanting more money. When we brought Jagr in last year & he was bumped off the top line, he kinda pouted & vanished. It did motivate him when he got back on the top line once Jagr got injured. But good luck on his contract negotiations next year.

Well, a couple things.
1st I’ll apologize to Bingo, obviously I over assessed Hamilton’s value. I like the players coming back, but Dougies #’s should have gotten more coming our way.
2nd given the scope of the return, this has to mean there were issues with Dougie, right? And Ferland? And I guess those Fox not wanting to sign in Canada rumours must have some truth to it as well.
I really hope this works out for us.

Hanifin may grow to be a real good defenseman, but there's some doubt there.

Overall I think you traded current talent for potential. More risk on the Calgary side of this one.

As you all said yesterday, Hamilton put up more points the last two years than Lindholm did, and Ferland scored more goals last year than Lindholm did.

Peters was never able to get more out of Lindy than what he already had, so not sure why that would change in Calgary.

I haven't seen this many conflicting views on who won a trade in a while. I'm not sure who won to be honest.

Every time a big name player is traded people start talking about then being a douche in the room.

Hell, Hanifin is a big time Trump supporter.

Depends on what you want. If you're Calgary, this is almost like a rebuild style trade.

A lot of conflicting reports come from people who know the name Noah Hanifin but haven't really watched him play because he's been in Carolina.

Same reason lots of people have favourable opinions on Bill Peter's. They know the name from Team Canada but never really played attention to him in Carolina because, well, they forgot the Hurricanes even existed.

There was definitely something going on hopefully this addresses that. Again I like the guys coming in.

I agree with you completely, Hamilton was obviously a problem in the dressing room, probably still ass hurt that his brother Freddie was released by the Flames. I think the Flames got a good return. Brodie can go back to playing on the right side and I think Lindholm will slot in nicely on the top line.

Fair.

I think Lindy will work well with those two if given the opportunity. He's great at give-and-go offense, especially around the net.

Word was he was asking for $5 Mill per for 5 years and the Canes wouldn't match it, hence the trade.

For the Canes, they replace Lindholm's spot with Svechnikov already, so no real trouble there.

They get a legit top pairing D man in Hamilton and lose all the promise of Hanifin, which sucks, but Hamilton is better right now anyway. There's a chance Hanifin develops to be as good as Dougie, but debatable right now.

Ferland and Fox coming to Carolina is the big win here. Canes haven't had anyone who brings what Ferland does for a long, long, time. Ferland-Staal-Williams will be an absolutely miserable line to play against.

Adam Fox has great potential, though word was he wouldn't sign in Canada anyway. Pretty good chance he'd sign in Raleigh though.

That's a pretty big stretch. I could give you at least ten other possible explanations that are far more likely than Hamilton turned into a big sourpuss and made everyone play bad.

Fair enough. How about any 5?

the assumption here was that Fox wasn't signing because he had too many d-men blocking his path, which is no different in carolina

he already committed to play his final year in college, i imagine it gets resolved by the deadline.

the inclusion of Fox is the surest sign Brad got played. there was absolutely no reason to include him in this deal with what they were already giving up. none. they could have and should have flipped him seperate

Ferland scored as many goals as he did because he was playing with Johnny and Mony. Your going to find that out the hard way.

Put Lindholm with them, and I think you'll see a decent increase in his point totals.

If we put him on the second line, he's an upgrade over Frolik which should be playing on the 3rd line anyways.
