I thought that was against NCAA rules? Does that mean a possible signing is close already?

Hughes has said a bunch of times already he plans to make the team this fall. You can only try and do that if you sign. No GM would postpone the signing. Hughes can develop on the Comets quicker than college. He's played against men for the last year+. He's ready for pro... one league or the other.

Canucks will need to be creative to find a 2nd line C. I don't like the idea of adding a guy like Beagle and giving Sutter more offensive opportunities but I expect that is what will happen.

Cody Eakin is an interesting guy, he is one of the few Vegas players that didn't have a good season and is coming off a couple disappointing seasons.
He is only two years removed from playing 2nd line in Dallas and could likely be had for cheap.

Rangers might be willing to move Hayes as they have some young centers they want to bring in but I think his cost will be high.

Perreault could be available if the Jets are trying to shed some cap. He's had some injury troubles but IMO has the talent to be in the top 6. Hasn't played much C since Anaheim though.

Boone Jenner or Sam Bennett would be more questionable projects and would likely cost Virtanen +.

Try and sign someone... I'd take a C like Bozak before trading young players away for a stop gap. If they fail at that... trade minimal for a bandaid and keep assets. Or better yet, trade for a crap contact with a pick and end up with a overpaid talented player for a couple of seasons that really wont hurt this team overall but add to the future. If all that fails... tank for Hughes.
