Things have changed and don't get me wrong players get paid very generously to play a game they love but IMO the owners have come out on top of every negotiation. - belcherbd
Perhaps, though they both employ professional negotiators and invest substantially in preparing their negotiations. No different than most business / union negotiations.
Today, the average NHL salary is $2.4M a year (Caps are apparently at $3.67M, while the 'Nucks are at $3.24M). That is a pretty massive contrast to how even the very best players were treated, when the owners operated a monopoly.
Of course, the flip side of that is we get Loui Eriksson's $6M per year buyout-proof signing-bonus heavy dead-weight contract. |

I've always assumed posters here were joking/dreaming when proposing lineups with him. Doubt anyone actually believes it. |

Iβm on the JT train also but max contract our only hope. 7/13m - Nighthawk
I would do 7/13 for him. We would be able to manage the cap pretty easily. |

This was the guy that was able to really slow down McDavid's offensive production way back in the OHL Playoffs. Now that the Oilers have Chiarelli to do that job, the Canucks no longer need Cassels

The point of the escrow provision was to ensure that the owners & players each received 50% of the hockey related revenues...which are only estimated in advance (sometime during the prior season). It is effectively a bank account which is paid into during the year, and then paid out at the end of the year, either to the owners or players, depending upon final hockey related revenues.
Having the escrow as insurance against a drop in revenue allows total cap compensation to rise...which then translates to bigger salaries. The cap escalator also contributed to this.
There are some good articles on how it works, if you're interested.

I understand and still have questions.
Added revenue leads to bigger salaries. Wouldn't a bigger salary be the same as someone being paid the full amount of their contract?

Winnipeg wanting to shed salary so they can keep Statsny.
Nilsson+Gaunce for Mason and Petan and a pick would make sense. Cap savings of at least 1.6 mill depending what Petan signs for |

Ryan Hartman
2018 5th round pick
For
Victor Ejdsell
2018 1st round pick
2018 4th round pick
Nashville paid for Hartman who played 12 minutes a night in the playoffs.
Tomas Tatar
for
2021 3rd round pick
2019 2nd round pick
2018 1st round pick
Tatar played 12:30 minutes a night and only 8 out of 20 playoff games.
Those are some pretty bad trades. |

Likely letting Enstrom walk as well, who's become a pretty damn solid defensive dman. Would be a good signing for a playoff team. |

Yeah, I read the same. They have a deep blueline, but he's one of their best defensive dmen so I don't blame him for getting pissed at Maurice. |
