I didn’t copy paste. That’s just common sense with the lines.

Not denying they should get one more player. But how you going to get that one player? Diminish your team for 1 player?

Is trading muzzin and Pearson/Toffoli now worth it?

- KINGS67

We will see. Dont get me wrong. I like Kovi and wanted him years ago. I just dont think its enough. Not to mention we got older and not younger faster. If they make a move and they move Muzzin it lets us know they believe in Brickley, Clague, LaDue and Fantenberg. I personally believe in them enough to move Muzzin while his value would possibly be as high as its going to get from now moving forward.

Might as well trade them both! Once they get to LA, IF they have success they will never be able to resign them now. Kings = Hawks...no hope now and no hope for the future!!!! God damn! Stupid BS decisions!
- royalgardens

Well good think Kovi is only signed for 3 years and not 17.

As did I. Hes exactly what we need. I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities that hes still a target. Wouldn't even be surprised if they traded Carter to make it happen. It might be crazy talk. But they could rotate Kempe and Vilardi around at center.

Ok, so the Kings actually want to keep getting older and older and slow and slower! Might as well have just kept Gaborik!

3 year deal for a 35 year old, not sure if he can even keep up and play in the NHL. Big deal he helped Russia win the gold medal at the Olympics...they played against a bunch of teams without current NHL players all scrubs, AHL guys and kids (mostly guys who are past their prime and cannot get a job in the NHL even as 4th liners!!) This deal officialy means that Rob Blake has lost his mind and thinks he can win with old and slower past their prime players. No youth and speed on this team whatsoever up front. Kovi better score some goals or Blake should be canned so fast his head will spin. Now they have to resign Doughty at age 29 to another monster long term contract, meaning a cap crunched club will be in the same boat as the Hawks. Get ready for a long long time of mediocrity and then total helpless poopty seasons in LA. Horrible day for the Kings...no hope for a bright future now!

They made the playoffs last year with a first line of Brown, iafallo. Not to mention Carter out for the year

Blake gave up nothing to do this low risk high reward.

You gonna sign Skinner to an 8 year 7.5 million deal? Cuz if you don't you might be trading a guy like Dolan or Muzzin for a 1 year rental.c

It's ok, your cap won't be affected as he's already called a dinner time press conference to announce his next retirement

This has the potential to be 1 of 2 things.

1. Great signing that really pushes the organisation up

Or

2. Massive error that lumbers the organisation with a bad contract that interferes with other salaries moving forward.

Guess we won't know till after Xmas what he has in the NHL. Going to be very interesting.

Spot-on. My initial reaction this morning was "(frank) no!" Thinking on it, the worst case scenario is that Kovi stinks for all three years, and Drew walks next summer because the team is going nowhere. Best case is your get 3 worthwhile years out of him, Drew signs, the young talent become regulars, and the team makes a sustained run. Someone on this thread mentioned we can't sign Vilardi because of this deal. How's that? Vilardi isn't going to be an issue because his rookie deal expires at the end of Kovi's term.

The thing about Kovi that concerns me, other than his age, is he bolted to the KHL when he was still an excellent hockey player. If this guy is a heartless, paycheck player, then worst case might be more likely.

I just based that on what DD has said in the past and seeing what RB gave Kovy ...
I still think DD is the gold standard for D men and got robbed this yr. for sure. Hedman for the Norris ....yeah right.

I think this is a good move for the Kings. The core of this team isn't getting any younger so having a go for it now attitude is the right thing to do - and getting Kovy does that. The whole "getting older and slower" criticism would be more justified if adding Kovy would be a square peg in a round hole thing - but the Kings aren't built for the new "small and fast" model, so they may as well double down on their big and strong model, continue to play stellar defense, and win those 1-goal games because Kovy has improved the offense and especially the PP.

Should have said - Poor choice for Norris...
No way, no how was Hedman more deserving than DD - just take a glance at the #'s ... Add to that Tampa had a much better team around VH than the Kings did around DD - for me DD is the obvious choice ... whatever Hedman won it so ... just my 2 cents that DD is better D man this past yr.

It is what it is though. The norris is always one of the most debated trophies. Like when Karlsson won. Everyone who wasn't an Ott fan said how did an offensive dman win the trophy. Hes terrible in his own end. Its just what it is. Just glad he was still voted for and was 2nd. Would be cool if they broke it down into 3 trophies. By the stats. Best offensive dman, best defensive dman and best all around dman.

Lets not take away from Hedman whos a very good dman and had a very good season.

I’m not sure how much Russia has changed how he plays, but he became a salid 2way player. that should not be an issue especially if kopitar is your center.

He can play either wing, I always felt he looked more comfortable on his off wing, Similar to Ovechkin. I’m glad he’s back and hope he works out for you guys.

I wonder if Carlson signing at 8mil a yr helps getting Doughty on a better salary term than the 11 to 12 mil thats being mentioned.

$63.5 million without Doughty signed, Assume your cap hit of $11.5 mil, that's $75 million and Blake has to fill in 9 empty roster spots. That's a lot of cheap players. Better hope that salary cap takes a massive upswing.
- duxcup07

Martinez for a cheap prospect or picks. Or maybe muzzin. Solved.

Kovalchuk’s good for 20 In his sleep. They’re stoked.
The third year kinda sucks, but that’s the price of doin biz
