Thoughts on the draft. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Reminds me of the year when we had 3 first round draft picks and Floyd Smith used them all to draft 3 players from the Belleville Bulls. The comedy act had the Leafs not having very many scouts and they only scouted Belleville, because of being too cheap under Harold Ballard.

Fast forward to today....another first rounder, another Swedish defenseman. I guess that we have our 3 scouts all in Scandinavia. Not that I actually disagree with the pick, it's just the same old. Speed and grace, with little sandpaper. After watching the two conference finals, you had to see that the teams that got that far, had allot of sandpaper and toughness. The Leafs never seem to address this deficiency. There's a lot more to playing defense then skating and passing. Exhibit A: Jake Gardiner. The Leafs need more defenders with size and strength, that can pass the puck and skate rather well. We have a stable of similar types of defenders, especially in the top 4, that play the same way. Other teams have no fear, to bump our goaltender or go to the front of the net. It's why our goaltending gets allot of rubber thrown at them. Maybe some North American grit is in order, in regards to drafting defensemen.

Can we afford JT?

I don't see how we could possibly fit him under the cap with the young guys presumably wanting to get paid on their second contracts. Gotta save some cap space for defense.

- Leafs43

If a top 10 player in the league becomes available for just cap space you sign them. Elite talent wins championships. The cap will rise, and there are other moves that can be made to get dmen

Yep, in 5-7 years a 11 million contract will be what a Crosby and Mallon contract look like

49 points in 40 games, along with 16 points in 11 games in the playoffs. How awful, a PPG RHD.
- Steven_Seagull

Not. Impressed.

He should have averaged at least 2 points per game as a d-man and be able to play both right handed AND left handed.

I've had some good ones over the years but this one is a true classic from the Leafs/Sens thread.

And no he can't.

I really like mine because it's a legit actual quote from Garf.

I know that switching to the Sens was the right pick for Spatso, but I wonder, doesn't he at least worry a little bit that the Leafs were the better choice?
- Zezel

But wasn't he getting bullied by those tough Ottawa roughians in the school yard? ...or did his wife kick the shat out of him? ..shat..can't remember?

Be nice. He could be one of the very fine nazis like the ones that Trump referred to in Charlottesville. You know, like the one who intentionally drove a car into a group of people with different political views, killing a woman who had to be buried in an undisclosed location to protect her grave from other very fine nazis. You don't know.

So, I didn't watch the draft yesterday. What's the general consensus? Good picks or Meh? Did we pick all smallish puck-moving defensemen??

What's the thoughts on that Carolina - Calgary trade? Big one, not sure though... seems like Carolina gave too much?

- Hockey_Reverend

Dubious did great! IMHO. .and yes we did .and apparently there's a lot of questions about contract disputes. .and some players involved being asshats ..but probably an equal trade
