If you develop a pure and sincere motivation, if you are motivated by a wish to help on the basis of kindness, compassion, and respect, then you can carry on any kind of work, in any field, and function more effectively.

We do need centres. Half of our draft picks were used on defense.

Sign Tavares
Sign Joe Thornton
Trade for Trouba

- PatC80

I'd take Joe on the cheap... and that center depth would be stupid

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Kadri-Kapanen
Grundstrom-Thornton-Brown

who the (frank) needs d?

All these overage guys they keep drafting, you'd think Dubas forgot he's the GM of the Leafs and not the Marlies because it looks like he's stocking up a bunch of guys who can play for the Marlies next year. Not too many impressive picks in the 2nd-7th round either.

The Durzi pick was a real head scratcher and Jacob Olofsson (the Plekanec pick) looks like a gift for Montreal. Just a really odd 2nd round strategy. Not sure I like it very much.

Columbus took Veini Vehvilainen in the 6th round. They have a great eye for goalies and I think they got a late round steal with that one. Was really hoping the Leafs were going to take him.

Honestly.. If Babs cant get past the first round next year with that lineup, then i think its acceptable to start questioning his abilities to win in todays NHL.

He doesn't have the horses yet to say that. He also has a lot of years and money left on his deal. That being said, he has 1 Stanley Cup and it was 10 years ago. The idea that he is the clear cut best head coach in the NHL may no longer be true. There's a lot of equally qualified head coaches who have won more recently and perhaps have a better understanding of how to win today than he does. So while he may no longer be the best, I'd be hesitant to say he's no longer capable of winning.

Leafs took the most bench penalties this year. (i think)..

Im not critical of the way Babs coaches Matthews per se, but it seems like there's a small crack in the relationship between the two. Theres some things that i do question when it come to handling the teams superstar. Like PP mins, TOI, linemates etc.. Babs is a tough guy to play for but i think its important to have that. It demands accountability form everyone.

I just hope the system he's teaching is as effective as some of the others like Vegas, TB, WSH...

Durzi was ranked in the 40-50 range by a lot of the scouting organizations and the Leafs took him at #52, so not sure why it's a head scratcher. He was taken right around where he was projected to be taken.

The guy apparently went undrafted last year in part because he needed ankle surgery which really impacted his year. If you read some of the articles out now it seems the Leafs actually wanted to sign him last fall as a free agent when he was at their development camp and they were impressed by him, but they didn't have a spot open.
GM Kyle Dubas said the Leafs might have signed Durzi as a free agent last year but were hamstrung by a lack of room for a pro contract. As it was, they kept their eye on him and liked what they saw. Durzi, to his credit, used the crushing heartbreak of last year’s draft to further fuel his pursuit of the dream.

Not impressed. He's a 98 while the draft year were the 00s. For his age, his point totals weren't impressive. If he was a late round pick, fine, but a 2nd round pick? Don't like it.

Bench penalties? So what? Doesn't mean much. Those are poopty line changes and half the time the fault of the players.

Babcock makes everybody earn everything. It's not a bad thing but over a long period of time it gets to be a tired message. It happens to every coach, on every team eventually. When he left Detroit, Zetterberg said it was time for him to go. Every coach has an expiry date.

He needs better players, especially on D, before you can really compare him to those teams.

October 21, 1998. So he was 2 months from being a '99 baby. He was past the cutoff for the year 2016 draft, and his draft year was only one year ago, where he had ankle surgery and a poopty year, in part, because of that surgery.

And he was projected as a 2nd round pick by most organizations, but you don't think he should've been picked with a 2nd rounder... Yeah, it would've been interesting seeing Dubas trying to draft him in the 6th round when someone else already took him in the 2nd round, cause Dubas was too busy listening to your nuggets of wisdom to draft him with a 2nd.
