They have their place. Things did go a little overboard with ipa options admittedly. Then again I basically don't drink anymore. I do like the sours that are out now.

Sours are the new craze and brewers are moving away from super bitter IPA's. I say it's a good thing so they focus on GOOD IPA's instead of a ton of varieties of them. Everyone else can have their strawberry beer (although some sours are awesome)
