Too many guys looking for angles that are different

Lou Lamoriello made his bones building the Providence hockey program (and the basketball program when he became AD) and it's still pretty strong today. They won a National Championship 3 (frank)ing years ago.

Yet, O'Brien somehow ending up there is a problem.

Early returns from their time in minors or the NCAA seem to indicate the Flyers were right to select them. Allison, Laczynski, and Marody were all Hobey Baker candidates this season. Carter Hart...enough said. Strome was certainly worth the pick as a 4th rounder given his upside. I left off Ratcliffe and Frost given that one was a potential 1st who slipped and the other thought of as a mid second who went in the first.

I certainly hope they pan out, but looking at historical games played past the first round isn’t good

Ouch...I’m not convinced Hamilton will be a better defenseman than Hanifin either.

This. Very backwards move and at best lateral.

Nobody knows -- the Calgary kid, Mark Jankowski, went there and looked pretty decent for the Flames last year as a rookie

Apparently, Providence didn't ruin his career as a first-round project

Hopefully the Rags, (frank) em

edit: Washington will probably have a Cup hangover too and Carolina didn’t really do much by swapping Hanifin & Lindholm for Hamilton either.

Softens the impact, but trading Hanifin, IDK. The guy was taking several spots ahead of Provorov and right before Marner in that loaded 2015 class.

Yeah, if the Devils are banking on Keith Kincaid to be the man in goal, they could drop. Hall absolutely carried them last year, not sure he can do it again.

NJD will definitely need more production from quite a few guys -- maybe Hall can do it again, but that was a crazy season he had

No thanks on that Hamilton trade or the Kovalchuk deal.

Neither one would have helped the Flyers this year and would have hurt them overall in what they would have had to give up for Hamilton.

Wouldn't have minded adding Kovalchuk for 3 years, but not upset about missing out on Hamilton either.

I wanted the Flyers to go out and get Hamilton. I was adamant. And after that return.... you were all right and I was way wrong.

Holy poop that’s a lot!

I think the thing with the Flyers is this: If this young core of defenders, plus Patrick, TK and even Couturier, and one of these goalies isn't enough to get you close, then you aren't gonna be able to buy or trade for it

At some point, your guys have to be the guys. If they don't make the leap to being RIGHT THERE, like the Richards/Carter team did from 2008-2010, then it doesn't matter what you do

My only guess is that maybe they didn't feel like they could sign both Lindholm and Hanifan.

Otherwise, this deal sucks for Carolina.

Incredibly boneheadedness, but this is the only way I can understand it. Agreed.

Young quality puck moving and point producing defenseman are at an absolute premium. Add in RH to boot and the price is pretty high.

I wouldn't have minded Kovy, but he could really call his shot and I doubt the Flyers were even on his radar.

He was going to a market like NY or LA.

I’m sure Kovalchuk is still a really good player, but after what he did a few years back breaking his contract to go play in Russia and creating that fiasco situation, I’m done caring about him as a player. I’m glad he ended up in the West so we hopefully don’t have to hear about him as much.

1. Over 35 deal
2. $6.25 million / year
3. 3 Years
4. Multiple years removed from NHL

None of that makes any sense for the Flyers this year, next year or the ever.

As tough as it is to accept, the success of this team does truly lie a few years away.

This wasn't a tank for a rebuild, but imo it really was a rebuild when Hex took over.

There are a lot of kids that will continue to come up in the next few years, and I think its also clear that they are going to be the individuals to carry this team to the cup and not Giroux/Voracek.

It's a long road, but the only way in the cap era.

For Hanifin and Lindholm.
- Sinisalo4vr

MJL asked me earlier if I’d trade Sanheim and Konecny for Dougie. No way, too much.

I think Carolina gave up more then that!
