One of those players has played in the NHL and done well but last the first round the Flyers haven’t proven anything. First round hey have been doing great but past that?

They kind of like their nice support players past round one no? Hakstol is creaming his pants.

Ahh well. See what happens.

Early returns from their time in minors or the NCAA seem to indicate the Flyers were right to select them. Allison, Laczynski, and Marody were all Hobey Baker candidates this season. Carter Hart...enough said. Strome was certainly worth the pick as a 4th rounder given his upside. I left off Ratcliffe and Frost given that one was a potential 1st who slipped and the other thought of as a mid second who went in the first.

I was reading a post from another site in which the author insisted that O'Brien would not make it to the NHL. He cited the lack of interest from any of the "major" (by his definition) programs in the Northeast as evidence. He mentions Providence as a "middling" program, which I think is not really accurate since they've made five consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and finished 7th overall in the final NCAA rankings. Thoughts?

FYI: Wyatte Wylie is from Everett, Washington.

IOW, they have yet to draft a player this year born in Canada.

Matter of fact, Mike Richards is a prime example of drafting guys and them being not quite what they were projected

Even Ken Hitchcock thought Richards was a 3C

Richards' career wasn't as long as some. But he was a legit 1C for two years, a 2C for four years, and an all-star

None of the things he did well when he was at his best were projected from him -- running a PP, playmaking C on a first line, PP shooter

NONE of those things were written about him

I think he will be a good kid. Grew up with a tough life. Little known fact but he worked construction for a bit according to his old friend Ben. He got spotted one day at his high school hockey rink after hours just skating. Met with a councillor who made him see his potential.

Ben always said he hoped one day when he would ring his door bell O’Brien hopefully wouldn’t answer and have run off to chase his hockey dream.

I do.

There could be any number of reasons that O'Brien is going to Providence.

Maybe he stated a desire to go there from the start and other programs chose to not waste their time scouting him? Maybe he'll get more ice time at Providence?

That "He won't be good because he's going to Providence" was some next level nonsense.

Second year in a row they’ve drafted a Wyatt, albeit with a slightly different spelling.

So basically if the Flyers wanted Hamilton, it would of cost Provorov and Rubstov. I know values aren't exactly the same, but close enough.

Not worth it for the Flyers.

Ouch...I’m not convinced Hamilton will be a better defenseman than Hanifin either.

As good a pick as any at that point in the draft. Good frame and mobile is a good place to start
