What happened with Berggren? - Sublime55
Detroit took him. They are having a great draft IMO. |

Yeah, I am too.
I see the criticism on twitter and I think it's kind of facile analysis that just because he's considered a "stay at home" defenseman that the player doesn't have upside. He could develop more offensive skills.
He's 18 and playing well against older players in the SHL. - johndewar
We have Provy and Ghost ready Sanheim and Myers knocking on the door
We could use a stay at home Dman |

Everybody's a damn expert now and there's so little perspective
Shea Weber went around this time in the second, in 2003. If social media was around then the way it is now, I shudder to think they what they would've said because IIRC, he was a classic tools guys, hard shot, questionable hockey sense

We have some decent puck movers including Friedman as well, some decent defensive defensemen with Hagg and Morin (injury setback)...nothing wrong with adding more. They don't all work out. |

I enjoy this stuff, but not as much as I used to -- my gosh. They're kids. They all have flaws, most of them need to work on their skating, most of them need to get stronger, most of them need at least one year, probably two years, some three years or more
These people focus so much on what these kids can't do they forget that many of them can do things that make them worthwhile picks -- and every single one of them is a suspect until they make it. No guarantees that the Hayton kid won't be better than Svechnikov or whatever |

I just assume they're all busts. That way, I can be pleasantly surprised. |

You're almost better off, anymore -- it's almost like a player with a flaw or two needs to be taken out back and flogged for daring to be available in their draft year

Holland needs a good draft. His recent draft picks and free signings have been questionable to say the least. I wonder how much more time this buys him if Detroit remains bad for the foreseeable future. |

The reason why the draft is so disappointing for most, not all, people is because the media keeps pushing the "This superstar got drafted in some later round" angle. Yes, it happens, but it is only a good story because it doesn't happen often.
EDIT: As soon as I posted this the story of Marchard and other hidden gems come on |

More disappointed with Hexy not making a move for 18-19 season. Seems like prices were too high to get into top ten. Would have thought Dobson or Bouchard made sense for us. I like our 1st round draft picks though. Our money will pay for a lot of beer in college. I hope there is something out there in UFA or trade to get our RD we covet. Also 3rd line center. Let's see what happens. I trust Hexy and his team. |

Exactly -- it's borderline ridiculous, because we should all know better by now
There's 700-plus NHLers on rosters at any given point of the season
They draft 200-plus guys every year
Math tells you pretty fast that not only are some guys not gonna make it, an effing ton of them aren't.
That doesn't mean people have to kill these kids' every flaw or build them up to the point where being comparable to Lars Eller is somehow a bad thing -- last time I saw Eller, he was scoring the Cup-winning goal and got a multiyear extension for 10-plus million dollars

There’s no guarantee any of those defenseman you mentioned would have been NHL ready next year. The only one I’m aware that truly is ready for the jump is Dahlin. |

Ginning is a hard working, mobile big man who plays a smart, D first game. Makes a good first pass and plays very physical but does not take himself out of position looking for the big hit. |

Plus Flyer fans don't have a right to complain, Flyers have been good recently with later picks like Ghost and hopefully Lindblom...plus the player by the name of Rinaldo

I’ll take it. I wonder how much separation talent-wise there is between him and Sandin. |

My winners so far is between NYI and Det. Buffalo doesn't count, their drafting was too easy. |

Exactly -- hell, as limited as Rinaldo is, he made it because for all the things he can't do, there are still a few things that he could |

Agreed but we could have packaged one or both picks in a trade to acquire an NHL RD. GMs saying it was a slow day in terms of conversations regarding picks. I'm hoping there is a move out there via trade. Paryko, Trouba, Faulk... looks like Carlson will resign with Caps and Karlsson is too rich for us. UFA is enough for us to get 3rd line center either Bozak or Riley Nash. Plan D would be Fippula. Can't see us going into next year standing pat. Too many assets available to Hexy. |

Young assets are best used to replace roster players that can be moved for value. Only way I move young assets is for a proven NHL player after the team has won a cup or on the cusp of winning one. Flyers are neither and that one player probably won't put them there yet. |

The fact that the Flyers have 2 NHL d-men who were drafted outside the first round is pretty awesome no matter how you slice it. |
