I don't think it's unreasonable for fans to want the team to move forward. I predicted that fans patience will run out and start calling out Hextall for not making enough moves. It's kind of a natural thing. I think we'll see that lack of patience grow stronger among the fan base in the next year or two.

Rest assured, this team's future is far more dependent on the growth of it's prospects and draft picks then it is on players it trades for, or signs as free agents.

They were saying repeatedly last night that if you want a really good RH defenseman or a #1 center, you better draft one because the cost to acquire one, as we've seen with the Hamilton deal is really high. #1 Centers making it to free agency are a rarity.

Long term patience has nothing to do with obtaining a competent 3C next year. That’s not coming from within and after the draft now doesn’t appear to be coming in a trade. If people expect Laughton to be given the 3C reigns they are mistaken. There is a gaping hole in the lineup here and like it or not Hexy has no choice but to overpay. If he can control the term with the cushion he’s built into the cap I believe that’s the way to go to bridge to our young center prospects. This is not some knee jerk impatient move

why are so many people negative about the draft? we got people that will take time to develop it's not like we have room right now for extra D
- 2Real

I am happy with the draft.... we have enough players getting close to NHL ready as is and not enough roster spots for them.... hexy just drafted the next group to come in behind those guys. at some point we'll need them. its a beautiful thing having this much organizational depth.

Nobody said anything about not going out and acquiring a 3rd line center. That is an impending need. Nobody said anything about not making any moves.

I think everyone agrees the Flyers need to find a good 3C and they also need another top 4 defenseman, but why does it have to be 5 mins ago? It just sounds like you want Hextall to do it right now so you can enjoy the rest of your summer. It will happen when it happens, but if he does it by overpaying he is going to have bigger issues to worry about. The best 3C in the league is not going to turn the Flyers into a Stanley Cup team overnight.

It would’ve been ideal. 6.25 is nothing for him for 3 years. Still a very good player

Like others said. He prob never had the flyers on his radar.

- Just5

I dunno..

He has been out of the league for what, 5 years?
He is 35 and more often then not players are on the downside at that point.

I don't know what people expected to happen.

The Rags and Stars both reached letting the favorite of the majority of people to be picked. That pick also fills a huge need btw.

You got a project at 19 who could pan out to be Pavelski-like. At worst we only need him to be a decent 3C down the road.

Not to mention they finally stopped ignoring US born players for once.

They got Frost & Farabee for Schenn. Let that sink in for a bit...

Schenn is a proven 20+ goal scorer in the nhl and a well above average player. Let’s not spike the football on the trade yet.

It is certainly favorable, but to flippantly say that the trade is already a win is premature.

I’m worried Hextall won’t sign any free agents and the Flyers will be kicked out of the league for not reaching the cap floor.

A bit later that same day ANNNNNNND Dougie is gone

- Lip_Out

He was right about the cost, though.

Hanifin and Lindholm were both #5 picks who had developed nicely, if not spectacularly.

1. Over 35 deal
2. $6.25 million / year
3. 3 Years
4. Multiple years removed from NHL

None of that makes any sense for the Flyers this year, next year or the ever.

- opeth_pa

The third year for an over 35 guy is a genuine concern, but I have no doubt he’ll score plenty of goals in LA, and would have scored plenty here on a line with Patrick and Voracek. $6.25m is not a high cap number if he can get near 30 goals, and the Flyers have about $20m in space.

Hanifin still the 3rd best DMan from the top 10 of his draft year.

But still, yes, he's good.

Question. Since the Flyers are under the cap by such a large amount, does this bake in any excuse for management if they give Simmonds a large deal? Or will it be judged on its own merits regardless of cap space available?

His new number wouldn't take effect til next season anyway, wouldn't it?

They're going to sign a 3C be it Flip or somebody else. Then maybe a depth D man on a one year deal. They'll get to the floor.
