6th round. 7th round. They're both massive craps shoots. I get what you're saying but who knows, maybe a move like that every once in a while keeps you in good terms with other GMs or something.
- hereticpride

Possibly. It’s probably just they didn’t have anyone they really liked, made several picks already, and wanted to have an extra asset for next year

3 years? I have interest in bozak. We have a ton of cap space now and In the future. Even with signing our own players. Hexy is going to be making some signings this summer
- Just5

First question I ask myself..."Why would Bozak only ask for 3?"

If I am Bozak I want a contract that finishes off my career.

People just need to female dog. Our GM lands two firsts and people have a stick up their ass not having a 3rd
- Just5

They also forget we got an extra 3rd next year by trading Marody to Edm. They took a 6th round pick and got a third for him.

Why do that deal with Montreal? If they wanted a 7th today to draft shouldn’t we have gotten a 6th next year? Confused Bc there’s no guarantee the pick is going to be a higher one next year
- Just5

I had a dream that the 7th he got last year became a 6th for next year and then so on until he worked it into an unprotected lottery pick for 2035.

Does he have that type of pull to ask for that? He’s a 3rd line center at this point in his career. An average one.

I don't know, I try to look at both sides when it comes to trades and signings. All you have to do is look around the league and the contracts given to see players/agents obviously have a big say in it.

As long as he doesn’t get stupid years. Bozak here for 6.5 over 3 years? Reasonable to me. I’ll pay for less years

It's the same scenario. Trade the players we don't want for other team's good players and have free agents sign here on the cheap and for low years.

Bozak is not a player I'd sign for 6.5M regardless of the term.

He’s a 5.5 mil a year player on a 5 year deal in free agency. A consistent 50 point producer. Ill pay to knock 2 years off

Buckle up my friend for simmers new deal

What do you think they should do at 3C?

As tough as it is to accept, the success of this team does truly lie a few years away.

This wasn't a tank for a rebuild, but imo it really was a rebuild when Hex took over.

There are a lot of kids that will continue to come up in the next few years, and I think its also clear that they are going to be the individuals to carry this team to the cup and not Giroux/Voracek.

It's a long road, but the only way in the cap era.

- flyer_nutter

What is your definition of success? I would argue since Hexy and Hakstol have taken over, we have succeeded as an organization in many ways: finally have seen how good Coots can be, a career year for G & Jake, prospect pool has never been this stacked, cap situation is pretty great as well, and the team has improved each year, points-wise, since they got here (sans the year both G & Ghost were hurt.)

If you are referring to playoff success, well that is the consequence of having Pronger get hurt like he did, and having poor management in the past giving ridiculous deals to AMac & Bryz.

He's reached the 50 point mark once in his career. Hit 49 twice. He's hit the 20 goal mark once in his career. More like a consistent 40 point producer.

Big difference between 5.5 and 6.5.

What’s your plan at 3C next year bub?

I want to tell a story about 2 guys. One guy is, let's call him Ding Dong, and the other one is named Mr. Patient.

So Ding Dong wants to buy a new tv and is told one just came out. Well the tv is expensive, but it looks a bit better than the one he has now. The other person Mr. Patient finds out that another tv is releasing a year later for half the cost and much better quality. Mr. Patient tells Ding Dong that if he just waits a year it would be much better.

Eventually Ding Dong can't wait anymore and goes out and buys this new expensive tv. He gets all excited because the picture is a little bit crisper and brags to Mr. Patient about it all the time. In the meantime Mr. Patient just continues to watch his old tv.

A year later the new awesome tv comes out and Mr. Patient runs out buys one. Ding Dong hears about this and wants one too now. So Ding Dong thinks he can just sell his 1 year old tv he paid a lot of money for and get the new one. Well to Ding Dong's surprise no one wants to buy it because they would rather use the money on the new one. Now Ding Dong complains that he is stuck with this crappy tv.

Moral of the story...there are more Ding Dongs in the world than Patient ones.

Or.... as the next year approaches Mr. Patient comes up with another reason not to buy that new TV and because there is another one that is supposed to be even better coming out the following year.

Then the next year Mr. Patient decides to put off buying it again for another year.

In the meantime, Mr. Ding Dong has won because he has the best TV on the market that is crisper with better quality than all the rest, even if it’s for a year.

Cool story though.

PS- I don’t consider Hextall Mr. Ding Dong or Mr. Patient. I’d say somewhere in the middle.

Actually the story had nothing to do with Hextall, it's just the fact that most people are impulsive and think only about right now. In the end they are the ones that complain the most in life. It's a mindset I guess.

Then I’m an idiot, I misunderstood. Sorry, I thought you were talking about Hexy.

In regards to Hexy, I’d like to see him be more aggressive sometimes, but like I mentioned with the Hamilton trade... even though it was a guy I wanted Hexy to be aggressive towards, he smartly stayed far away unlike the debacle the Canes made.

That was an alarming trade by Carolina. I don’t know much about the Fox prospect but I don’t think he’s an A prospect

I don't think it's unreasonable for fans to want the team to move forward. I predicted that fans patience will run out and start calling out Hextall for not making enough moves. It's kind of a natural thing. I think we'll see that lack of patience grow stronger among the fan base in the next year or two.

Rest assured, this team's future is far more dependent on the growth of it's prospects and draft picks then it is on players it trades for, or signs as free agents.

They were saying repeatedly last night that if you want a really good RH defenseman or a #1 center, you better draft one because the cost to acquire one, as we've seen with the Hamilton deal is really high. #1 Centers making it to free agency are a rarity.

If Hextall finds a deal he finds that improves the team then I am sure we will read about it the next day. I doubt Hextall wants to go sign someone to an enormous contact so fans have something to talk about.
