Late reply but...glad it showed Bergevin isn't looking for a quick fix. Good chance be won't be there to see Kotk in Mtl which tells me it likely was the right pick. Gotta bite the bullet at some point. Kotk and Poehling gives the Habs a solid C pipeline for the future - Takemedrunkimhome

Yes I would draft the forward Defenseman take longer to develop in my opinion when a forward could be ready on year 2 AHL or NHL
I can almost guarantee that there are probably more forward in the second round two years ago in the NHL then defenseman picked - gerbe75pts
D men taking longer to develope is a 1980s mentality and it’s just not true. |

i suspect JB has a deal or 2 in place to address wing/scoring and goaltender but is waiting until after July 1st. very little chance we'll be getting draft picks back, so no need to swing those deals now.
Love beefing up the D pool. Our D depth has sucked so bad. - LandlordTom
I’m guessing we probably are going to go after Carter Hutton

I think defense is overrated. Forwards make the Defenceman look good. Should’ve went forward. Especially after we got Dahlin. |

You have this backwards.
Defense that can’t get the puck out of the back end make your forwards look worse. |

I think the logic that you just stated is why you draft the D first. They take longer to develop, our depth there is lacking. You can get W's when you're closer.
Regardless, BPA is always the best strategy. Drafting for need never works, that has been Buffalo's strategy for almost a full decade. |

No way. Every team in the Conference Finals were there because of their forwards. They could’ve had the Sabres Defence and would‘ve still been good. |

So far, only 1 or 2 Goalies have gone...The first one looked like Gruhl from Minions...could probalbly make a save with the nose.... |

But they used a pick that was valued as a second in the third so the value kind of evens out. |

Nashville, sure. They’re the exception to the rule. At the end of the day they still lost because the other team had better forwards. Just like this year. |

Well on one hand, the 2015 Hawks won the cup with three great D, Oduya and half of a Kimmo Timonen.
But the Caps and then penguins had guys to feed the pucks to the forwards

Actuall you should look up how long they take you would be surprised and gms understand that and try to trade for them later when they are developed

Sabres D needs to get better. It did with Dahlin. Samuelsson isn’t a lock to amount to anything. The forward they could’ve drafted wouldn’t have been either, but would like to at least try. |

I'd fall over. I don't think he fits the speed that JB is looking for. Unless my perception is off... |

I like Botterill going BPA (well, his view of BPA). Darcy had to swing for the fences with Grigorenko and Girgensons because our centers sucked. Drafting for need leads to tunnel vision and reaches imo. AZ's pick last night was the epitome of that. Obviously way, way too soon to judge that move, but it looks like a hell of a reach right now |
